Will you get designer mat jeans?

I don't need any yet but I am browsing the maternity section of Amazon and I really like these paige premium maternity jeans. Yep I know they are expensive! But I have seen some Old Navy mat jeans and they were just awful looking. I didn't try them on but they just seemed frumpy. I think I want to invest in one pair of good jeans. Is it possible to wear jeans like this all the way to the end? Anyone have a brand they like for maternity jeans? TIA!

Re: Will you get designer mat jeans?

  • I have two pairs of maternity jeans...one from Gap and one from Old Navy and I love them both!  And I could barely justify the expense on those but DH said I couldn't wear his boxers in public.

  • I liked the high waisted kind (like those) better than the lower rise kind at the end.  Most of my maternity clothes came off ebay or from jcpenny - much cheaper.

  • Yes, I guess it's possible to wear those until the end as long as you don't gain any weight in your butt or thighs. lol I wouldn't waste that much money on mat jeans since you don't know how your body is going to change. I buy mine at old navy and motherhood maternity (when they have them on sale). The old navy ones are nice enough, I think. I do prefer the high waist ones like the ones you showed. They stay up better. The lower cut jeans with the short band doesn't stay up very well and there are no belt loops on the ones I have. Ugh...
  • I received some Mavi ones from Pea in the Pod as gifts during my first pregnancy and I loved them and wore them to the end.

  • Nope. Not going to spend $100+ on a pair of jeans I'm only going to wear for 5 months.

Try Motherhood Maternity. And yes, you need to try them on before you say they look "frumpy".

  • I usually spend a decent amount on jeans and I would never pay that much for maternity jeans. I haven't bought any maternity pants yet but I have seen reasonably priced, fashionable jeans at Motherhood Maternity and Gap.

I suggest trying something on before calling it frumpy. Things look very different on the rack as opposed to on a person.

If you want to spend $200 on jeans you will wear for maybe 5 months then go ahead. Doesn't seem like money well spent at all in my book but I guess if you think you will fit into them throughout your whole pregnancy and will get enough wear out of them then go for it.

  • If Motherhood counts as "designer" then, yes...but otherwise, no way...the most I am willing to pay is about $40

  • Hell no! I want to spend as little as possible on maternity clothes. With my DD mo legs got so fat that for the last month I didn't wear jeans at all.

  • Whoa jeez!! Shop around - that is crazy spendy for a pair of jeans - which by the way look EXACTLY like my favorite pair I wore during my last pregnancy. Bought them online at JCP for $27, and they even came in tall!! You'll be happier spending that kind of money on stuff for the baby later on!

  • I say if you have the money, then do it. Feeling sexy during pregnancy is sometimes hard to do. But if rockin a pair of sexy jeans will make you feel good and not frumpy, I'm all for it.

  • Ps- I assumed they were around $120. I would not spend $200, especially if I couldn't try them on first.

  • Heck no! That's a huge waste of money to spend on a pair of pants I'm only going to wear for a few months. I got all of my mat jeans from Burlington Coat Factory, all really cute skinny and bootcut.

Try things on before you call them frumpy. They're like that because you're going to have a belly the size of a watermelon.

  • LOL @ $200 mat jeans.  That's like 10 pairs of normal ones.  No thanks, I'd rather buy a few outfits as opposed to 1 pair of overpriced pants.

No way!  I won't even spend that much on non-maternity jeans!  I went to the Motherhood Maternity outlet store and got some 25$ jeans that you'd never know were maternity unless I lifted my shirt.

  • Yeah, I can't see spending that much on maternity jeans either.  I have to agree that I'm not a fan of Old Navy jeans. My last pregnancy I bought a pair from Old Navy, a few from Motherhood and one from GAP.  I LOVE the GAP jeans and the ones from Motherhood were fine but not a huge fan of the ones from Old Navy.  They had the high waist and ripped where the jean met the waist part :(

Unlike preivous posters, I prefer low waist.  Not really sure why.  I think it was just bc I didn't like anything directly on my belly with the exception of something flowy, like a top or dress....if that makes sense.

As someone else said, I'd rather buy a few outfits then spend 200 on one pair of jeans, but I guess if you can afford it, more power to ya!!  Good luck to you!

  • Buy what makes you feel good!  I think it's worth it, especially if you plan to be pregnant more than once!!  I felt great last pregnancy and got constant compliments on my clothes.  Granted, I wouldn't call mine designer, but I bought a ton of cute tops, jackets, dresses, and jeans.  And surprise, I get to wear them all again!!  This time I may get a more expensive pair, because some of mine did end up wearing holes in them (cheap stretchy material)

  • I am a stay at home mom so that would eat up my clothing budget for the next 4 - 5 months (maybe more), lol! I bought some that were SO cute from Target for DD, but I bought them a size too big (they were the very last pair left in that style and I loved the style). By the time I was 7-8 months, the elastic was too tight so I cut them a bit. Er...bad idea, I forgot they were a size too big and I couldn't keep them up!! This time, I will probably go nicer than Target (unless they have something I really like), but I just can't afford the designer stuff.

  • Well I probably will.  I can wear "nice" jeans to work and would prefer to have one or two nice pair of denim that make me feel great.  Plus, I can get a lot of wear out of them and don't care if I wear them multiple times throughout the week.  I generally wear designer jeans and have found that they feel and look better.  However, my approach to pg last time was to buy a few staple pieces that were nice and then fill in with old navy/target.

  • $200 for maternity jeans is obscene, also I don't think they're any nicer looking than the ones you can buy for $40.
  • Wow, so glad I found this post! I will definitely be trying on gap maternity jeans, as so many of you girls seem to love them! Last time, my stepmom spent $500 on a pair of Paige jeans and a pair of Seven For All Mankind maternity jeans as gifts. I was thrilled because I couldn't afford to spend that much, and I lived in the Sevens for my entire pregnancy. The jeans came with the original waistbands that had been cut off and replaced with a maternity "waist". After, you could just take the jeans back to store and have the original waist sewn on. However, I got the jeans in size 26 and normally wear a 24, so that sadly wasn't an option, as they were baggy post partum :( I can't wear the Sevens this pregnancy because they are capri length and I'll be huge in the dead of winter, but plan to wear the Paige jeans again if I still find them trendy ... It's been 5 years and I'm not sure I'll still like them. Time to bust out the maternity box!

  • I liked my Target brand last time (Liz Lange), but I was heavier during my first pregnancy so I gave all my maternity clothes away.  This time, I'll get whatever I find at consignment stores.

  • I might buy one pair of designer jeans, but probably not super expensive ones.  I swore off Gap and Old Navy jeans about 5 years ago when I realized they all started to fade and stretch after just a few wears and I essentially had to replace them once a year at least.  I own two pairs of expensive jeans (one 7 for All Mankind and one Citizens of Humanity) that have not changed shape or shade in three years and always look fantastic - to me, that is worth the price.  I'll try on the cheaper ones, of course, but I won't spend $40 on jeans that don't look or feel good because I won't wear them.

  • I have a pair of Paige maternity jeans that I bought off Gilt last time for a steep discount. They're pretty great (though, they run a little small - I'd recommend going up 1-2 sizes from your PP size), definitely better than my Gap ones, and I'd do it again assuming I find them at a discount again. I can easily justify non-maternity designer jean prices because I wear them forever but given the short timeline on maternity clothes, full price is a bit much.
