XP- What does your diet look like?

Okay, so I know you are supposed to eat and drink more while BFing. I know I'm not eating or drinking as much as I should, so my question is how many calories should I be taking in and how much water/liquids should I be drinking? What does some of your meal schedules look like, what kind of foods are you eating? What I'm trying to say is what are you eating throughout the day? I'm trying to help boost my supply so I can have a stash and I can stop supplementing. My ultimate goal is to BF til DD is 18 months, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA

  • taking pre natals, drinking as much as I can, mostly watered down sweet tea,fruit/veggies, and ice cream with dog and Abby walking thrown in there at least twice daily. It's pretty much what I did while preg; I had a  hard time gaining my weight because I dropped about 20 lbs during the first tri and struggled to gain that back plus some extra. I just don't eat as much snacks and ice cream as I did while preg. and I'm able to take walks without the fear of passing out or getting sick. I don't count calories so not sure how much I'm taking in, but she's healthy so that's all I can ask :)

  • Unfortunately, I eat pretty crappy too. Wayyy more processed food and eating out than I should but convenience is key for the working mama. Anyways, I do try to eat oatmeal for breakfast most days. I've found the steel cut tastes the best to me and tends to have the greatest impact on my supply. I just make up a big batch on Sunday (usually while making/freezing purees for LO) and separate it into single servings and put in the fridge for grab and go the rest of the week. I add peanut butter and almond slices to it to make it taste better and makes it a good start to the day.

Other than that, I pretty much eat to hunger, but have found I need to eat 5-6x/day otherwise I get pretty lightheaded/blurry vision. I used to basically eat snack foods all day, but now I'm more on a breakfast/snack/lunch/snack/dinner routine.

I drink tooooons of water too. I still feel like I don't do that well with it. My doctor suggested I try to get about 90-100oz. of water per day because of the dizzy spells, etc. and that is practically impossible to do!

  • I make sure that I eat lots of lean protein (turkey, chicken, lean beef), veggies (steamed carrots are a current favorite), oatmeal and drink a bottle of water for every BF or pumping session that I do.  I also always have a bottle of water on hand throughout the day, where ever or whatever I'm doing.  I also eat a Milkin' Cookie every day, not sure if that helps or not, but I'm scared to stop haha.
  • I had to start weight watchers online to get back on track after being pregnant. It has really helped. I have oatmeal for breakfast, beans and rice of some sort for lunch, and lean proteinWith veggies for supper. I lost seven pounds and have too much milk supply. I like ww because it allows extra points for nursing moms.

  • Thank you ladies. I appreciate the ideas. I kind of have an idea as to what I can do to change my diet.

  • I try to eat protein at every meal. I also have oatmeal for breakfast everyday and that really helps keep my supply up. I don't drink my water as well as I did when I was working (teacher). I still enjoy my two cups of coffee per day and some sweet tea when the opportunity presents itself. I too, eat way too much processed food and am trying to change that. Sometimes it's just easier to grab that PopTart rather than fix something more nutritious.
