Toy time=not so fun right now

LO is so frustrated by his inability to crawl, that toy time has become heartbreak time. He is either lurching and belly-flopping, or lying on his tummy crying inconsolably. It is awful! I realized that is it 5 pm and he has not played with a single toy today.

Even when I hold him on my lap, he just wants to lurch for things (especially the phone or the remote) and gets so upset!

Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how to help, or when this will pass?

  • Would he play with toys on his high chair tray?

  • I always put a big blanket on the floor for DS to play on.  In the past few days, he has figured out how to pull on the blanket to get the toys to his hands.

  • DS was like this before he was crawling.  We would do like PP said and set toys up on the high chair tray.  It didn't last too long....maybe 2.5 weeks.  Once he starts crawling, that's all he will want to do if he is like my lo!  Now, instead of fussing b/c he can't crawl, he cries b/c he crawls to everything and tries to climb it and ends up bonking his head.  sigh.
  • What kind of toys is he playing with? Now that A is able to sit up really well I try to give her toys that "stand" on the floor and that encourage her to sit up straight and play with them, like the stackable rings or the Laugh and Learn puppy. We had the same issue, she would keep reaching for her toys that were laying flat on the floor and bend herself in half.

We have this standing toy bar from Ikea that Alex loves. When he sits in front of it, the toys are at perfect height for him to reach and stick in his mouth. He also likes to play with the toy basket while sitting. If I plop him on his belly he gets frustrated easily. He doesn't know how to crawl yet, so he just puts his butt in the air and faceplants and then starts to cry. It's quite funny!
