Ok so I found out i was pregnant this past memorial day and my LMP was 4/22 so i calcuated that I was about 7 weeks pregnant by the time I had my first ultrasound. They said the baby was measuring at 5 weeks which seems normal and that she seen a light flickering and saw the yolk sac. Everything was fine my hcg levels were perfect so I thought I was in the clear. June 22 I had my next ultrasound and it wasn't so good. She said there was no heartbeat or growth and then I was scheduled for a d&c and I was told this happened two weeks ago. However I jus seen them 11days prior and everything was great as I was told . So now Monday Im scheduled for that D&c and im nervous and thinking about reconsidering. Was it too early for them to confirm this?
Re: Lost & scared
I am so sorry you are going through this. If you are unsure about the diagnosis, I would definitely get a 2nd opinion. ((Hugs))
Yea I just checked that out . On that monday i went to have my sonogram they said the baby was measuring at 5 weeks so that sounds about right if I was 7 weeks right? Also thats what threw me off when they told me on friday the diagnosis..the bany wasnt even 7 weeks yet
If you were seven weeks the baby should have measured at seven weeks. Maybe they thought your dates were off. Do you know when you ovulated? I guess I'm confused as to why they said everything looked great if you were measuring two weeks behind at your first ultrasound.
I'm sorry I'm not really helping with the situation.
Yea. I thought the baby is 2weeka behind from the LMP because the first two weeks you aren't really pregnant. Yea thats what gets me she saw the flickering at 5weeks and the yolk sac. Im just confused because the baby wasnt 7weeks yet and they wanted to rush to tHe D&c option
I'm guessing they thought you ovulated late which is why they weren't worried with the first ultrasound, but on the second when nothing had changed with no heartbeat they knew it was a miscarriage.
I'll be honest, I'm surprised they didn't say anything at the first ultrasound since your date and theirs did not match.
I would still ask for a repeat ultrasound prior to D&C just for peace of mind. I'm sorry you are going through this.
I'm sorry you are going through this. Based on what you have stated, I am wondering if when you went for your first u/s maybe the baby had stopped growing at 5 weeks which is why they measured 5 weeks but also they could not find a heartbeat b/c they thought it was too early.
As others suggested, get another u/s so you can be sure and have peace of mind either way. Good luck!
I guess I will just go for the second opinion before the d&c i just read countless stories similiar to mine that the doctors misdiagnosed them and they went on to have healthy babies. If thats not my case I will accept it because i know that everything happens for a reason and I will just pray for the best in the future. Thanks everyone for the responses.
I'm sorry you are experiencing this. Most likely, if there was no HB and the baby was measuring smaller than expected, then most likely the diagnosis is correct, and you have had a missed miscarriage.
However, if you need confirmation before going ahead with the D&C, there is absolutely no harm in asking them to do one more u/s to confirm the diagnosis. If you are having second thoughts about it, it will probably be best for your mental health in the long run, that way you are never questioning yourself and will know for sure before you go ahead with the procedure.
I am terribly sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry you're going through all this, but this exactly. When I went in for my first ultrasound, I should have been about 7 weeks according to LMP, but was only measuring about 5 weeks and 2 days. They didn't worry because they figured I ovulated late and therefore was measuring behind. They scheduled another u/s a couple weeks later to check the growth. My guess is that your doctor was concerned if there was no growth in the 11 days between your u/s. But if it gives you peace of mind, I would absolutely get a second opinion! good luck..and again, I am so sorry.
unfortunately if you were 5 weeks, 2 weeks ago and than 5 weeks on the 22nd.. HCG will not tell them anything. You can't just pause a pregnancy, and than it will just resume.
If your concerned have them run another US or Blood test, but unfortunatly your holding on to false hope, I'm really not trying to be mean. I just hate to have you keep feeling confused and hurt. I know how it is to lose a child, I've lost 4 in 2 years. ((HUGS))
Once they confirm on ultrasound, they won't always check hcgs as if they can show that you should be at a certain stage in your development (such as nine weeks) and the baby is measuring behind with no heartbeat) levels don't factor in as much. I am so sorry you are going through this, but I would absolutely tell you to call your OB and ask your questions. Even though it does sound concerning to me, if you have any confusion or doubt you definitely want to go into the D&C without those doubts.
