mountain drama/dog off leash

Yesterday we were enjoying a lookout spot by the lake at the place we are staying. The lookout is enclosed on three sides with just an entry from off the walking path. Pets are welcome here but they are supposed to be on leash. I saw a family with two large dogs approaching on the path above and just knew that one of the dogs was going to come to say hello. The man called for the dog to come but ity didn't listen, it ran right into the lookout. My husband yelled at it to go. And physically blocked it from us. The owner lost his mind. Uttered things about ending up dead. Pretty much the scariest moment in a long time. We reported them to the front desk but its doubtful that the staff cared.

  • Glad you're safe.  Some people are reckless  - rules are made for a reason.

  • Was the owner mad at the dog or YH? I hope he meant that was a good way for his dog to wind up dead and not for YH to wind up dead. What a psycho.

  • He was threatening my husband. If you want to protect you pets from strangers you really need to keep them on leash when that's the rule. My husbands didn't hurt the dog at all but he did block him with his body. Really glad this adventure is over. Sleeping in the room was uneasy after psycho man.

  • I hate when people are irresponsible with their dogs. I understand that "he's sooooo friendly and would never hurt a fly" but they're still animals with natural instincts. Why would you put your safety and everyone else's around you at risk just because you're lazy? Ughhh. Glad you're okay though. Smart and quick thinking on your husband's part.

  • This is semi related....I'm going to make sure to teach LO what to do when a dog approaches and how to approach other dogs. We have a huge lab, who is very friendly, but I am still careful about letting kids pet him. So many kids just run up to him and put their face right in his. Kids should never pet a dog without asking and should put their hand out in a fist so the dog can sniff and wait for the dog to move to them, not the opposite. We don't let kids pet our dog unless their parents are around and say its ok. He's very sweet, but you just never know.
