I think this has been mentioned before, but I have to vent just a tad about my Target registry and how disappointed I've been with it so far. (There are far worse problems to have, I'm aware; just want to see how many other people are having similar frustrations.)
My online registry is fine and accessible; found out after my shower that it not only updates sloooooowly, but some things never get taken off. This happened with at least 5-6 items from my registry. So, as a result, I received a few duplicates I wanted to exchange. However, when I went to exchange/return the items yesterday, they told me to print out a special report from their registry kiosks. No problem. I go over there, enter my information (email and password... the one I use EVERY DAY as a certified Registry Stalker [TM]) and it says it doesn't recognize it. Try again. Same thing. Error message after error message. I know for a fact I'm putting in the same information as when I set it up in-store and that I use all the time online; still no dice. I print out the regular registry, but "they can't use that". I didn't receive gift receipts for the 3 things I want to exchange, so they finally say that I can return them without receipt using my driver's license, but warn that I can only do this with $70 maximum purchases over my lifetime. (It was small stuff--only about $25 dollars' worth.)
Add to that the fact that I still haven't gotten my baby gift bag... I know this is totally minor, but they just keep saying to check back, and check other Targets. I've checked 3 over the last 4 months several times, and they are still not in stock. I guess I shouldn't be sweating a bag with a few coupons or free samples or whatever the heck is in there, but I can't help it. I want the coupons! And BuyBuyBaby's bag was pretty great--even had an Avent bottle in it. My BuyBuyBaby registry has been pretty good, although customer service at the store has been spotty--a few family members were steered to buy the wrong things, wanting to buy the registry items and then I had a bit of a hassle exchanging them in the store even when I went with the purchaser, who could have produced a credit card, receipt, etc. if needed.
There are a billion other things to worry about, but I guess that's why it bothers me so much that these things should be harder/more difficult than they should be--enough to post this, anyway. Target is about as huge as it gets, and they shouldn't be having such a breakdown in their systems, and I am sure BuyBuyBaby deals with exchanges all the time, and they are a specialty store whose associates should be able to steer customers to the proper products--and many of them seem to be so in-the-know, especially when we shopped for carseats and strollers, which frankly, made my head spin.
Have you had good/bad experiences so far with your registry or registries, both online and brick-and-mortar stores? I can't be the only one with a few gripes.
Re: Target registry ALL messed up
Having worked for Target for many years I can vouch for how horrific the registries are. We NEVER had the gift bags and management couldn't explain why that was. As far as the special log that customer service is looking for, it's called a Gift Log and often times it works better if you print it from home. The kiosks in store are ALWAYS screwed up! The reason the log is needed instead of the registry is because they want to give you the price the item was purchased at and not the last sale price. It really does work out in your favor I promise! I'm sorry you have had so much trouble, but just remember that it isn't customer service fault it's the company and the workers are just as annoyed by the whole thing as you are!
I first registered with Target for my wedding, I ended up deleting the registry for multiple reasons. I gave them another try for baby stuff, who knows why. I guess I figured everyone is near a Target, vs. many BRU aren't as close. Luckily most of the things my immediate family bought off of there so I jumped on and personally removed them from the registry to avoid duplicates. I did get one duplicate sleeper/onesie/hat set, but I figure I"ll just keep it what's one duplicate. So not worth the headache.
Sorry you're dealing with it now.
I never repost my posts on the same board but I wrote specifically about a Target issue in a comment in another thread, so I'm going to put it here because it is VERY appropriate. I am not pleased with Target, to say the least.
I do have a PSA for Target returns, though... I hope you have gift receipts or that the items were purchased from your registry AND removed from it at the time of purchase... Target has ensured that DH and I, as expectant parents of a child who will need thousands of dollars worth of merchandise throughout her life, will be hesitant to give them much business. I try to warn everyone about it now, haha.
We had to call and ask someone for a gift receipt because we ended up with 2 car seats, nothing was taken off the registry, and Target wanted nothing to do with it. People shouldn't be put in the position of needing to ask for receipts. We were first told to buy something off our registry to "activate" it and then they could return the car seat that was still listed on the registry (same fabric style and everything). So we did; we spent money to do this. Turns out that was a lie and doesn't work at all. Since the seat was over $70, they couldn't return it with an ID. They couldn't even change the price and lower it from $71.99 to $70 like we suggested because we just wanted to be done with it. We could have exchanged it for another item "in the baby department only" except for the fact that there was NOTHING we needed or wanted--we wanted store credit, because we're putting our gift cards toward the portable washer that they sell online since we're doing cloth diapers as well.
We could have just taken it to Walmart or Buy buy Baby for easy store credit, no problem. Unfortunately we really need that portable washer, and financially, it's only really doable with the gift cards we have for Target.
