Anyone else scared of pre term labor?

I don't know why, but I'm so worried about PTL.  My OB and Perinatologist have both told me that with twins I am at much higher risk of PTL.  So I guess that gets me worrying.  Every time I have a pain or a cramp or anything I worry, is this a sign of pre term labor?  I know that there are so many pains and discomforts that just come along with pregnancy and since I've never been this pregnant before, I have no idea what is normal and what is not.  Sometimes I get shooting pains in my groin and my hips ache so bad when I wake up in the morning.  Then on Friday I was having some major stomach issues with lots of gas and cramping.  It is hard to know what is a gas pain and what is not.  Ugh.  Sorry for the rambling.  I just worry so much about these babies.  I wish I could just relax a little bit.  :(

  • I wish I could tell you the worry gets better but so far for me it hasnt.  The good new is that is why the Drs get paid so much.  You can call any time you want and ask them if you should be worried.  I will tell you after the first few days bed rest isnt bad.  What sent me in were contractions.  They just felt really tight and would fade in and out  just so you know.  GL

  • I was/am scared too!  I just am thankful each week when I progress more.  As long as you are with a good OB that monitors you very closely, there is not much else you can do, except listen to your body and don't be afraid to call the doctors with questions.
  • Terrified! I have a million aches/pains every day and I asked my ob and she said it all sounded normal and said nine times out of ten you will know when you are having a contraction.  I just hope I do!  I don't think I would worry so much if it wasn't twins, but I have read too many scary storis on here!

  • I was for the longest time after hearing about so many others stories on here. However, it is important to stay positive and enjoy your pregnancy. For every scary story of PTL there are many others who have had a problem free pregnancy and made it to 36-39 weeks. I have been lucky and have not had any problems and I am almost 35 weeks. Each week brings new hope. Good luck.

  • I was so scared when I was pregnant that I would go into ptl.. but here's a positive story for you.. I had triplets, and I went to 35 weeks, and never once had it. I had mild pre-e at 33 weeks, but other than that my pregnancy went really well. I had a lot of braxton hicks, but they stopped with water/rest. Just listen to your body, and if its telling you to relax, then relax! You'll be ok!
  • I'm really scared of pre-term labor. In fact, it's my latest unhealthy obsession. For the first trimester, I worried about losing one or both of the twins.  Then, at the beginning of this trimester, I worried about birth defects and losing one or both of them.  Now that I'm the doorstep of "viability", all I can think about is PTL.  You're not alone :)
  • yes- scared to death... i know some people IRL and on the boards who have had bad experiences with twins and PTL... i have to keep reminding myself of all the people who go to 35w+ - and tell myself that i can do it, too.... just b/c other people have problems doesn't mean you will, ya know? Just keep telling yourself that ;)
  • terrified... I dont think it goes away either : ( Every week I feel a little better and I have to tell myself okay I made it this far lets get through the next week...
