Two Under 2

Just found out I'm preggo again

DD is almost 5 months, and just found out I'm pregnant with #2. I am happy; DD is an awesome baby, rarely cries, sleeps through the night(please don't hate me). But I'm also nervous. I also had a Csection with her. So I'm pretty sure I can't do a VBAC which is fine but worried about will it be dangerous to have another Csection so close together? Anyone else go through this? TIA :)

I don't think it is dangerous for the c-section but maybe a little higher risk for VBAC. I got pregnant when DS was 9 m/o. I attempted VBAC w/ DS#2 but it didn't work out for reasons nothing to do w/ the length between pregnancies. The difficult part will be having a toddler when you can't lift anything for 2 weeks, so round up help now.

  • i was told I couldn't vbac if I conceived less than a year after my last pregnancy.  I conceived when my daughter was 9 months old.

    Congrautlations!

I had two csections and did fine :)

    DD (8/12/09), DD (2/8/11)

  • I found out we were expecting #2 at 5 months PP, too. I also had a c-section with DD1. I think it depends on your doctor and hospital. The doctor that delivered my daughter works in a practice and at a hospital that is not VBAC friendly. They just don't have the capabilities to handle VBACs (you need an emergency team available 24hrs, etc). I switched OBs and hospitals to VBAC-friendly ones because it's super important to me to at least try if it's possible/safe. My new/current OB is extremely supportive of VBACs and went through all the pros/cons both for a RCS and for a VBAC. Basically, I think clear communication with your OB and hospital will be the most important in making a decision to VBAC or RCS.

  • Congrats! I am also pregnant, just 5 weeks, and I also had a c-section when my DD was born 6 months ago. I haven't spoken to my doctor yet, as he doesn't want to see me until 8 weeks, but I am pretty concerned about having 2 c-sections so close by. The VBAC is out of the question for me, as I prefer section anyway.

  • Congrats! That's the same spacing between my two kiddos.

Whether you will be able to VBAC will be dependent on your OB and how pro-VBAC they are. There is a higher risk of rupture with closely spaced births-this is true. However, uterine rupture is a rare complication only occuring in under 1% of deliveries. Some doctors will be willing to let you try under certain circumstances (you go into labor naturally before 41w gestation). Some will not let you try at all. If VBAC is something you really want, I would interview a few different practices and see what their policy is.

I ended up with a c-section for my 2nd child and everything was fine.
