2nd Trimester

Flying while pregnant

Just wondering if any has flown while pg, at how many weeks, and any concerns you have.  My DH parents invite us to Florida every year in March and if we go the first week of March I'll be 30 weeks.  My doctor said it was okay up until 34 weeks just take a baby asprin and get up and walk every half hour and do ankle pumps to keep good circulation.  He said come see him 2 days before we would fly and he'll check my cervix and give us the okay if all looks good.  I still have some reservation though to say yes, it makes me a little nervous still, any thoughts?

  • I am going at 28 weeks PG to Florida.  Its not a long flight.  Your dr ok'ed it you should be fine.  Go and have fun!

  • i would trust your dr....i am flying right around 30 weeks
  • I haven't flown but I can tell you that sitting for that long makes me very uncomfortable.  Just listen to your OB's advice and walk as much as possible on the flight.  You'll probably have to pee every 30 minutes anyway, so it shouldn't be that hard :-)
  • I'm going the first week of March as well and will be 32 weeks. I'll do as advised and not worry unless there's a reason to be concerned.

  • I flew throughout my pregnancy for work and it wasn't too bad for me until about the time you would be flying. ?After my last flight at 28 or 29 weeks, I had the worst swollen feet EVER and was just really grouchy with the other passengers :-) ?I even drank lots of water and got up - which really ticked me off at the time.

There are tons of people who don't have the swelling, mood, etc issues I had though and enjoy it more.?

I was safe and baby was good...just felt like crap. ? GL!

  • I went from Baltimore to Boston at 16 weeks, to Dallas at 18 weeks and I'm going to Denver in two weeks (25 weeks) and Detroit in 6 weeks (28 weeks).

My ob said that its fine to fly as long as I feel comfortable with it.

  • If your doc OK'd it, then I'm sure you'll be fine. My doctor said not to travel during 1st/3rd tri, but that 2nd tri was safe to fly. I would just follow his instructions. Pregnant ladies fly all the time---enjoy FL!

  • My doctor told me the same thing, when I asked about flying vs. driving. 1 hr flight vs. 7 hrs driving, and she said she would personally drive. That way you could stop and really walk around, recline the seat, etc. Either way, take the baby aspirin.

  • I'm flying this Sat to FLA, I'll be 19 weeks.  I'm not really worried about it at all, doc said it was fine- just get up once per hour or so to stretch your legs and keep blood moving.  I'll probably need to get up that often to pee anyway, lol.

  • I flew at 6, 9, 23, and 28 wks with Kate.  It was fine, and wasn't even that uncomfortable.  We are flying for Christmas when I'll be 26 wks and I'm not worried about it at all.  I'm more worried about how to entertain my 19 month old on the plane!!
  • I flew at 18 weeks on a 2.5 hour flight.  When I am 30 weeks I'm flying again.  I just would make sure you have an aisle seat and you get up everyonce and a while.
  • I have flown quite a bit traveling for work and I can tell you I dread it. If you are going to go try and get direct flights and hopefully they are short. I have had such issues with delays and it is totally uncomfortable already (only 18 weeks). I had really bad m/s too so this didn't help. pack snacks and  buy water!
