RnP to crib...yikes!

Help ladies!  My son is 11 weeks old... has been sleeping from 730pm to 6am with a dream feed at 10pm in his beloved RnP.  Last week I decided to start transitioning him to his crib, so I let him snooze from 730-10 in the crib then transfer to the RnP after his dreamfeed.  Last night was the first night we tried the crib for the entire night and he slept til 2:30am, woke up and nursed then went back to sleep (put him in his RnP).  He needs to be tightly swaddled (use muslin blanket since he broke out of the halos) and the RnP keeps him in the swaddle.  At 230am I found him totally unswaddled chewing on his hands in the crib... I definitely laughed at him but would love not to have to go back to middle of the night feedings...  So I guess my questions are...

1) Am I putting stress on this earlier than I need to or will it be more difficult to transition later?

2) Should I try to teach him to sleep unswaddled first in the RnP then do the crib?

Any input or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Re: RnP to crib...yikes!

  • I don't know what the "right"answer is, but I can tell you what worked for us.  I stopped swaddling at 3.5 months, but kept ds in RNP.  Last week at 4.5 months I moved him to crib.  I expected to have a rough night , but he was great and slept his 12 hours.

I stressed about un-swaddling and he was fine. I stressed about the crib and he was fine.  So my advice... don't stress;)  Try it out and see how LO does.

    Good luck!

  • we transitioned DD2 to the crib over the last week.  the first few nights were rough, but now, she sleeps in her crib all night.  we are just dealing with swaddling right now (she keeps breaking out of one side), so she fusses and wakes herself up.

when we transitioned DD1 from the pnp to her crib, she was a better sleeper.
