recommend/criticize your swing

We are looking for a swing or other item to hold/entertain baby so I can actually get a break from holding her throughout the day and get stuff done (shower, dishes, etc). Moby and vibrating bouncy chair don't work well but the swing at my parents' house does more so. What do you use and why do you like/dislike it? How much did it cost?

Thanks in advance wonderful May Mommas!

  • We have the Fisher Price Swing & Seat. Not sure of price because it was a shower gift not on my registry...its the one with the jungle animals on it & hanging elephant (in case there are several models). Anyway, I like it and DS seems happy when I put him in it! It has a swing setting which rocks him to sleep in a couple minutes...and a vibration setting (which we dont use as much). The one thing Ill say though is that the swing settings seem pretty intense & go really fast so we keep it on the lowest setting. Then once he's been asleep a couple minutes I turn it off. HBattery life seems pretty good, havent had to change them yet. Hope this helps!

Thanks. By the way, it swings fast bc baby doesn't weigh much. As they gain weight it slows the swing down.

  • We have the FPlittle lamb swing. It's okay but every setting is the same speed so I think ours is dysfunctional. We're considering calling FP to see if they'll replace the motor, or have any suggestions. We manually push it when we want to swing her because the setting is too fast. She likes the mirror ball and the music, particularly the birds option.

I think it was around $160 in the store but you can get it much cheaper online.

I sort of wish we'd gone for the rock n play instead, because everyone raves about that, and how well babies sleep in it. My baby doesn't fall asleep in the swing usually. I have to put her to sleep and then place her in the swing.

We have the Graco Love and Hug Plug In Swing.  https://www.amazon.com/Graco-Circa-Lovin-Infant-Swing/dp/B004FF812A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1340481113&sr=8-2&keywords=graco+love+and+hug+swing

I like it b/c it plugs in or you can use batteries.  It was easy to put together and right now we just have it on setting 1 or 2 in the fully reclined position.  She falls asleep as soon as we put her in there and is usually asleep long enough to let me take a shower or make dinner.  One day she took a 4 hour nap and I finally shut the swing off and she woke up soon after it stopped--it was her first long nap and it made me worried.  LOL.

  • we have the mamaRoo, it was redic expensive and in retrospect while the baby loves it, we prob would have went with something less expensive, its not worth the money. the good thing though is that it plugs in and doesn't need batteries.

  • I didn't want to spend too much, so we got the comfort and harmony swing

     https://www.amazon.com/Bright-Starts-Comfort-Portable-Biscotti/dp/B002VBXY68

Its fine. I use it every day, so it was worth it. I like that I can wash it easily, that it's light weight and portable, and the speed settings seem fine to me. She likes it mostly. She Sleeps in it sometimes, and she's jut starting to enjoy the toy bar.

I don't like-- the way the straps are, and the music is odd...

But it's not too expensive and I tink it's worth it

  • We have the Fisher Price Snugabunny swing, and DS absolutely loves it. It has 3 swinging positions, 7 speeds, and plays music or sounds. It also plugs into the wall which is a huge plus considering how much he's in it! I think we paid around 120 for it, so it was on the pricy side, but well worth it.

  • We have the mamaroo. My mom bought it for him in like new used condition for $100. LO loves it, it's one of the only places I can set him down without him screaming. My favorite thing about it is that it takes up a fraction of the space of other swings. Totally worth it IMO. It's adjustable too so he can lay in it or sit up more. Haven't used this feature yet, but you can plug your ipod into it to play music for LO, and it has 5 different motion settings for different movements- not just different speeds. I think they retail for abour $200 new, but you can often find them on craigs list.
  • We have a Bright starts swing that I love (and so does Finn)...best part is it came with an ac adapter so I don't need to keep replacing batteries! There are at least 5swing settings and also tolerable music...I don't even hear the music anymore and my husband informed me today that he actually likes one of the songs...he is a weirdo though haha

Ditto all of this.  Love that it plugs in so we don't have to keep recharging and changing the batteries.  And it's really cute!

  • We have a few, but the ONLY thing LO will sit in is the Graco Sweetpeace that we have.  This thing is AMAZING and I think she will love it for longer periods of time  when she gets older.  We got it in Elefanta, and it plugs in.  It has a heartbeat sound and I want to say 7 speeds? It's also super quiet and plug-in.  The canopy is great too.

  • We also have the Fisher Price Snugabunny swing..

While I like the it plugs in and has music and the moving mirror/birds etc I do not like that after using it just a couple of times we seemed to have to keep putting it on a faster setting in order to get it to go the previous speed. It seems to work better swinging side to side but we liked it (and LO liked it) better swinging front to back.. but the motor seemed to stop working that way.. I am not sure if we just have a bad motor or what but I am a little disappointed :(

  • We have the Fisher Price Little Lamb Cradle and Swing, and it's GREAT now, DS naps in it during the day, and LOVES it.  The only negative I've heard came from my sister--her DS is 8.5 months old and has been too big for it for a few months already.  It has lamb ears attached to the top that serves as a pillow/neck stabilizer thing and once your baby is too long, they can't sit comfortably in the swing.  It seems that other swings will last longer than this one due to its size.

  • We had a fisher price (aquarium theme) and graco (jungle theme) both were hand me downs and we like the fisher price one better as it can swing two ways and is easier to use and get LO in and out of.  The graco one is awkward but I think it takes up less space,

That being said we just got a replacement swing off of craigslist for 30 and went with the rainforest theme and we all really like it but the older one (aquarium) was better.

This. We love our snugabunny swing, although it is pricey. I love that it plugs into the wall.

The only complaint I have about it is that its huge. Like a freaking spaceship in our living room.

  • We have the snugabunny as well.  I definitely think it's important to find one that plugs in to the wall.  If your LO really likes to swing, you can go through a LOT of batteries otherwise... the extra cost up front is balanced out by the lack of need to buy batteries, IMO.
