Mini In-Law vent. Anyone else want to join in?

hey, it can be cathartic, right?

Every time I see either my MIL or FIL, they ask about my job situation for next year. FFS, I resigned from my job in FEBRUARY. How much more clear can I be that I will not be going back to work next school year? DH guesses that they are worried we are destitute. I don't know how they think we have no debt, can remodel our house, and travel if we are broke...I'm about ready to tell DH to just tell them how much he makes so that they'll shut the f up. We are not broke and we wouldn't have made the decision for me to stay home if we weren't financially comfortable. We make sound financial decisions overall, we don't have high living expenses, and we have a good amount in savings, plus save a nice amount for retirement. We've waited 6 years to have this baby and planned for it. We are not morons. Geesh.

  • My MIL gave us a "special gift" of a diaper bag... monogrammed.  While that in itself would be sweet, she gave the whole family my DH's last name....  Our son and I share *my* last name.  Only our daughter and DH have his last name.  This has been an issue since our son was born...I guess 5 years isn't enough time to get over it.

  • I put something up on Facebook about the misery of late pregnAncy and she commented that she would pray that I could gain a devoted mothers heart and be more gracious about the blessing of pregnancy. She also told me that my dd is mal nourished because I let her have easy mac

  • Mine calls everyday to see if we had the baby.  While some may think it's thoughtful . . . . it's just because she knows I won't tell her.  Why?  Because the last time I did she showed up to the hospital when I told everyone to wait until we tell them to come by (after I had the baby).  She likes to think she's exempt from any rules which in my opinion is disrespectful to me!  She asked when my next dr appt is . . . . I said "next week".  I don't need her knowing which day.  She'll ask how much I'm dialated and I tell her it doesn't mean a thing in terms of when I'll have the baby.

She buys me 2nd hand clothes - I don't mind 2nd hand clothes, but she gets them from who knows where garage sales and some smell like smoke.  Not to mention - we have enough clothes!  And she says - "oh wait, I got you a present".

She just thought she did me a favor by vacuuming my outdoor buggy sunroom w/ my indoor vac because she thought it was messy.  We use the outdoor vac because of the spider eggs - don't want them hatching inside in my vacuum.  Leave my house alone woman - maybe I like it that way.

She's trimmed my plants down to stubs because she thought "they were too overgrown".

In my SIL's house she rehung pictures on their walls because she didn't like the height/ arrangement.  Her house is no model house - she's not good w/ decor, so she's no expert - I'm sure they looked fine!

  • DH and I had it out with MIL on Friday.  She "blasted" me on facebook by telling people that I wouldn't let her hold Jaxon while he was in the NICU.  She didn't put the reason being that I told her she couldn't if she smelled like smoke!

Then once he came home she didn't show up for over a week.  Once again smelled like smoke!  We told her at least 20 times that she had to shower, not smoke once she had, and change into something that she is to keep at our house so that we know its smoke free.  I'm  crazy over this issue, but would have been the same way even if he hadn't been 6 weeks early.

She also told people that she knew I would be this way, and that she figured I'd find a way to keep him from her.  She has pulled some more bs lately, and DH finally told her that she isn't to see him at all.

What pisses me off the most is she had a preemie baby that passed from SIDS. You would think she would go out of her way to ensure Jaxon's health, but she blows it off like its no big deal!

  • My MIL who doesn't actually speak to me, told my husband that because he has a child with someone else that his first child should be considered more important then the one we are having and she wouldn't mind or judge him if he decided to leave here (CA) and come back home (IL) so his focus would be on his first child. Nice slap in the face that was.

According to my MIL I'm not a good mom because I am going back to work. Why can't they just keep to themselves. Geez.

Maybe we should switch! Except I don't want judgement either way, you know? I just want everyone to respect the decision that DH and I made together because, ultimately, unless they are having to support us financially, it's none of their business.

Oh my God, your MILs all are such b!tches!!!!  I just can't even imagine. My MIL is just a big moron, and that in itself irritates me more than wiping my butt with sandpaper.  Nothing stands out at the moment, but she did finally remember Veronica's name.  (Not that it will ever be spelled right- she still can't spell Nathaniel's name or mine.)

The ironic thing about mine is that SHE was a SAHM and they almost surely couldn't really afford it.

  • If I were to start on mine I would not be able to stop! The latest is her lying about her doctor saying she and FIL couldn't get the pertussiss vaccine. Basically she cares more about having her way than other people's feelings or well-being.

  • Compared to some of you guys, my MIL is not that bad overall. She just calls every day to see if anything is new. And to tell me how I should be doing everything pretty much her way. Nope... Not bad at all!
