Ok - that kind of came out really selfish - not what I intended. What I mean do you think if we don't have a shower we'll have to buy everything on our own? I know I usually bring a gift when I meet the baby for the first time, but I'm wondering if people will bring things like bottle warmers, onsies, etc. or stuff like little outfits, picture frames and teddy bears?
I think its natural for people to look for your registry even if they don't know of a shower. the only thing I can think of is if people see your registry and wonder why they weren't invited.
I think ppl will definately buy things for when theycome to see the baby, especially if its your first.
I told my friends not to throw me a shower because they were stressing me out too much. We are not relying on anyone else to buy us things we need, but I did put up a registry solely because a few people have asked if we were registered anywhere. There aren't a ton of necessities on there though, just some random things as we have taken care of all the big stuff and the most pressing stuff.
People started giving us within weeks of announcing the pregnancy... I would imagine that people would gift you things along the way, or when they first meet the baby. I don't know your people though, so its hard to guess. I would think that if they were bringing you a gift, it would probably be outfits/frames/teddy bears like you said, and not the big stuff, unless you were registered and they knew what you wanted.

Had one for DD and will have one for this one too, I wanted more of a party to celebrate. I LOVE having parties to get my family together. but we did consider not having another shower and like my mom said people that will give you something will give it to you regardless. family has already asked my mom what we need so we made a small registry with just diapers (for brand and sizes) wipes and formula as well as breast feeding/pumping supplies. the only Big things on there are the stroller and soon the pnp. that's it. my "people" just do showers for every child whether #1 or #5. and if not still get you something...expecting a registry.
I'm not having a shower since this is my second baby...even though it's the opposite sex. I just really don't want to have another shower! I did, however, create a registry the other day so I that I can have a list of stuff that I need to buy for this baby. It's strictly for my own personal reference, but people will want to buy gifts too. You most definitely will get gifts from people even if you don't have a shower!
I don't think we're having a shower either. We live really far from both our families and friends right now. I think we might have a "meet the baby" type thing in each of our hometowns after he or she is born.
I don't know. Maaaaaybe my work will do something small, or our small group of friends here. We're still definitely doing the registry...just in case people want ideas!

No shower here. This is my 2nd, and although its a boy and DD was born 5 yrs ago, I still decided against having a shower. I just don't want one, and made sure to tell my mom not to throw me any surprises.
