1st Trimester

Aversion to cooking...

I've had no morning sickness, no nausea, and no food aversions, but the thought of cooking (especially handling raw meat) makes me gag. I can eat it all day long, I just can't cook it! Both DH and I work/have classes for long days and don't get home til late, so usually whoever gets home first handles dinner. Lately, all I can stomach making is PBJs or mac and cheese. Not so fair to the hubby. Anyone else?

Re: Aversion to cooking...

  • I haven't been cooking due to m/s, food aversions and strong sense of smell.  Have you tried putting food in the slow cooker in the morning? It is a good way to get a balanced meal without standing around in a kitchen.  Your husband could always handle the meat part if you don't feel up to it.

  • I'm 8 weeks and this had been a problem for a few weeks prior. I couldn't even get a craving or taste for anything. I cooked some awesome stuffed peppers, but had to give them away because it grossed me out for some reason. M/S has been pretty well under control since around week 7 (knock on wood) so I find that managing that by eating PB&J, Nutella, or other small snack-sized meals also helps me keep it together at cooking time. Sounds pretty normal to me :)
  • I'm having the same problem, the thought of cooking just nauseates me. I think I may take up the advice of the poster above and start using the slow cooker!

  • omg, this is so me! i have had no morning sickness, only a touch of nausea here and there, and only an aversion to cheese after i ate too much pizza. But i NEVER feel like cooking. This pregnancy is making me feel so lazy. DH has been having to cook a lot more lately, i'm just not into it. Hoping this changes in the 2nd trimester.

  • Same here.  I can't make anything.  I can't even picture anything I might like to eat in order to go to the store to gather the ingredients.  We've been ordering out/eating out a LOT.  I'm hoping that this will end soon.

  • I don't like the thought of handling raw meat, but I'll do it a couple times a week. Tonight we had baked chicken and rice, and it turned out great. I am not looking forward to doing the dishes though. :) We have grilled cheese once a week, Mac and cheese once a week, and there's usually a night we just have a bowl of cereal or whatever we can find. Strangely DH doesn't seem to mind that I'm spending less time in the kitchen.

  • Glad I'm not the only one. I hadn't heard of it before and was afraid DH thinks I'm making it up! lol

The slow cooker is a great idea! I did make one super-duper easy recipe last week, but maybe I should bust out the ol' slow cooker cook book. In case you're curious... you put 1-2 chicken breasts in the cooker, cover in one jar of salsa, and cook on low all day (not sure the minimum hours necessary, but it doesn't dry out no matter how late we get home). Then use 2 forks to shred the chicken. It makes an excellent filling for tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc

  • With my first two pregnancies, I couldn't stand to cook from weeks 6-12.  Anticipating that, I had a big freezer cooking session today.  My freezer is now loaded with a few meals, browned ground beef, muffins, and pizza dough.  This will at least be good enough for DH to warm up something for all of us to eat.

  • This was me when I was pregnant with DS, I couldn't STAND the thought of cooking.  DH got stuck with most of it...lol, oh well.  This time around, I figure it'll just have to happen.
