Maternity Bra

Has anyone tried a maternity bra over a regular bra yet? I'm sort of going crazy here constantly adjusting my bra to try to keep everything contained.  I was thinking about going to look for one this evening but I'm wondering if I should just go buy a cheapo regular bra that's a little bigger.

Re: Maternity Bra

  • Whatever you end up buying, I would recommend not spending too much money because your boobs are going to keep growing.  About a week ago I bought 2 cheap bras to lounge around the house in because my old ones didn't fit.  They are already not as comfortable as when I bought them, and I don't think I will be wearing them for too much longer.

  • This is my 3rd.  I honestly have never found a maternity bra that offered me enough support.  Ditto PP.  Don't spend too much money at this point.  Your breasts could be a cup size larger by the time you deliver and we're not even talking about when your milk comes in (holy smokes!).

I'd pick a regular one that's a little larger with room to grow in to.  Ditch the underwires if you can.

I'm thinking about just getting a couple sports bras that will stretch a bit. I'm already big on top, and I'm dreading trying to find bigger sizes.

  • Thanks for the advice! I found a $15 32DD at Target (online only of course!).  I'm not looking forward to the next growth spurt.  I'm going to be in sports bras exclusively.

Mine too...I haven't really seen a big change in size yet...maybe just a titch bigger but my nipples are sure sore and the underwires in my regular bras kill. So comfy sports bras are all I've been wearing!

  • I personally preferred a cheap, supportive, bigger bra.

I started a 36D, went to 36DD, wore a 40E nursing bra (they were still popping out), and I am still a 36DD, so the bigger bras aren't going to waste.  (And for what it is worth, I am curvy, not heavy and lost all but 5 lbs, so I think they are going to stay bigger)

This and I heard that nursing boobs are even worse.

  • I'm already big boobed to begin with, so this is the part that I really dread. So far sports bras are the only thing I can stay in without feeling like I'm spilling out all over the place. There is a brand called Moving Comfort that I swear by. It's soft, and have wide shoulder straps that don't dig into your shoulders. They are a little on the pricey side, but it is well worth the investment.

Yes, I agree!  I'd try to buy something that has some stretch to it in order to accommodate the changes.

  • I agree, don't go out and buy any nursing bras or special bras yet - in fact, I gave up last time and just bought Target bras.  My bra size went from 36B to 40D last time.  It was CrAzY!  It's not worth all the extra money when you're buying new bras all the time.

    Good luck!

  • I bought one new good bra (non maternity) since I went up a cup size in two weeks.  For the most part, I live (and sleep) in my sports bra but I think it is important to have at least one good bra to wear to work or out.  I know I'll have to buy more in the coming months, but $20 is not much to pay to have shape, support, and a good fit.
