Bug spray

We are going camping next weekend, not sure if we are crazy or not.  We do have a camper with a bathroom so not completely roughing it.  We will be at a nice campground.  So does anyone know of a safe way to keep bugs away from LO?  I have a bug and sun cover for the carseat and a bug net for the pack n play.  But we may need something when we are holding her.  Thanks!

Re: Bug spray

  • Those Off fans work well. You can also tuck Bounce dryer sheet in your belt loop when you hold her or safety pin one to her clothes where she can't reach it.

  • California Baby has an all natural bug spray. I plan on using is sparingly next week when we are up at the lake house. Other than that, just using the bug nets and keeping them inside in the evenings when it gets super buggy.

Also, lavender is a natural bug deterrent. You could use lavender oil on your LO.

  • I don't think your crazy I tent camped when my other two were tinny and this summer we are pop up camper camping for 8 nights with all of them.

Anyway for bugs the off fans work very well, or use a natural repellent on your self while holding your lo that helps too.  Have fun

Thank you for all of the suggestions.  I will have to get some off fans.  Good idea about putting a natural bug spray on myself while holding her.  I found one that is made locally that has lemon oil and vanilla in it.

Yes, there is something with the scent of them that repels bugs. We live really close to water so the mosquitoes here are crazy mutants. It definitely helps keep them away. Supposedly putting them around the yard will keep deer out of you gardens but we haven't tried that since they don't seem to jump our fence. (Dial soap is supposed to repel the deer as well.)

For mosquitoes, I also love EcoSmart organic repellant (I think we got it at home depot but my hubby saw it at the food store as well). They make a yard fogger too so perhaps spraying the camp ground could help a lot. It smells really good, kind of minty. If it rains, you do have to respray.
