DH and I are looking forward to taking DS. - MD has their at the end of August.
We almost never eat fried food - but always make an exception for the State Fair. Love me a funnel cake. I went to the WI state fair once - two words "cream puffs".
Now that I live in MN, the state fair is a big deal. I never went to one until I moved here. We try to go every year.
Food- love me some fried food at the fair. The cheese curds are awesome. Also we usually get a gyro and milkshakes. I love going with a big group so you can all share things and not eat too much.
One of our fave things is just people watching! There are some interesting people.
I'm in MN as well and our state fair really is a huge deal! It's pretty awesome! I love the pork chop on a stick and milk shakes the best. Also a big people watcher myself. We usually grab a beer and sit somewhere and observe. If we go this year it will only be if it's cool enough to wear DS since I don't think I want to battle the crowds with a stroller. And it can get so hot!
Our state's fair is a good 2+ hour drive. So--even though one of my favorite artists is playing--we won't be going this year.
There's a relatively large central of our state fair coming up in a few weeks. We'll probably be taking LO. We get in free and he'll be free since he's under 3. So it'll be cheap entertainment for us! I'd like to go to some of the free events--but think they are too loud for DS.
Mmmm...favorite food? At this particular fair--butterfly porkchop sandwich! Normally DH insists on getting a lemon shake up and a funnel cake.
Favorite thing---I'm weird and like the truck pulls. I'm a sucker for a whirl around the faris wheel though.

We live in Iowa and the State Fair is a big deal here for a lot of people but not so much for us. Its in August and its always hotter than H so it's not likely we'll go. When we used to go my favorite treat was salt water taffy (black walnut) and I always liked going through the animal barns best.
I am going to take both of my kids to the county fair which is only 15 minutes away. Its a 4H fair only so there is no midway/rides/carnival and just animals. I took DD to the goat show last year and she loved it!
DD loves to look at the animals and so we spend most of our time there. She even got to ride the horses last year (mini horse) and she was in heaven.
My favorite part of the fair is potato ice cream! Whats that? Its a big ole ball of vanilla ice cream in the shape of a potato rolled in coco powder with a line of coolwhip and its drizzled in chocolate syrup.
It looks just like a baked potato but tastes 10x better.

We go to the state fair about every other year. I dont know if we will go this year or not but our favorite thing is the art show.
Now the county fair on the other hand, we go every year just so we can get a philly cheese steak and watch the crazies from the surrounding towns. Love the wierdo's!
I'm in Florida an our state fair is in Febuary. We took DD and she was 9 weeks old. Dh doesn't do rides so I went on rides with BFF. I love the fair an may have planned the pregnancy around it.
Dough boys (Elphant ears)
The rides. I love fair rides
Michigan cancelled the state fair a few years ago. Budget cuts.
We will probably head to the county fair though.
In terms of food, I love the fresh french fries and lemon shake ups. DH love the sweet stuff (funnel cakes, elephant ears). We usually eat a decent dinner before we go and just get a snack at the fair...the one year we ate our entire meal there we were both sick all night.
I love people watching...I think DS will like the animals.
I'd love to go to the state fair but it's a few hours away, so we probably won't. We did go to the county fair on Father's Day and had a lot of fun. It was 106 degrees which scared most people away, so there were no lines. DH & I split a funnel cake (and let LO try some, because we're horrible parents...) and drank way too much soda because of the heat.
We were supposed to watch car racing with my dad (his Father's Day choice) but we skipped out halfway through to watch a rescue dog tricks show, presumably for DS but I was absolutely enthralled, lol. Oh,and I rode the Zipper with my little sister - it was scarier than I remembered!
BFP #1: EDD 8/29/11, MMC 1/14/11. BFP #2: Damien Isaac born 12/16/11. BFP #3: Rowen Cole born 7/28/14. BFP #4: EDD 9/16/16.
Anyone planning on going to their State Fair this summer with LO? Well heck yeah! And all the local county fairs too...and maybe the one back in NY as well.
Whats your favorite food? Fair food? Fried Bread Dough, Funnel Cakes, whatever the heck you want to call them.
Whats your favorite thing (non food - event, demonstration, ride...)? I like going through all the animal barns to see what the competition is when I get that particular breed of animal ;-)

We love seeing the animals. I think DS will too!
How funny. I was just thinking about this while laying in bed this morning. I love the fair and we will definitely be going this summer.
We don't usually eat much at the fair since it's always really bad for you. But I do love deep fried veggies. Omg so yummy!
I hope to be able to go on a few rides this year since I was super pregnant last year. My favorite is the zipper. So much fun!
Fastest year of my life.

We were actually talking about this too!

Yes!! Our county fair comes end of July/beginning of August and I can't wait!!
My favorite food there is the BBQ corn. So delicious.
Favorite non-food thing is the "ice museum." It's so amazing what they are able to carve from ice!
