stirring natural PB other than with a special stirring tool?

is there a secret to this? I'm not quite at the point where I want to buy those special PB stirrer things b/c I'm trying out the natural PB thing. I have gotten it in the past but find the stirring (esp after refrigerated) to be a PITA. However, I do want to give my kids a healthier alternative and we have been eating more PB & banana as part of bfast lately...plus MH has a terrible PB habit & will go through a jar a week via spoon & putting it on a variety of things and I know he won't dig into the natural version like the sugared kind (he is on a major weight loss kick and I'm trying to figure out ways to help him w/ out withholding things from the rest of the family & that is one food he really doesnt do well with if it is in the house)....

So, until I'm sold on this, is there a good secret to stirring? Maybe even just scoop out some PB and oil into a bowl and stir it a serving at a time rather than tryign to stir the whole jar?

Thx.

  • When I have a new jar I store it upside down in the fridge. When it's time to eat it the oil is at the bottom so it's easier to stir. After the first couple of days I don't have any problem stirring though. I really don't even notice it. Maybe you just have to get used to it?

  • Before I even open it I put it upside down so the oil is on the bottom.  Then warm it up a little and give the jar and a butter knife to the husband so he can stir.

I've never had a jar separate after it's been refrigerated.  I know it gets harder than "normal" pb when refrigerated but a 10 sec trip in the microwave softens it up.

however long the night, dawn will break.

  • Nuke it for 10 seconds.  Also, if you can find Peanutbutter & Co PB it's the beeeest!  And they have crazy flavors like cinnamon swirl and stuff.

I was actually wondering about the upside down thing today when i was contemplating, will try that.

Where do you get the PB & Co? I have regular grocery stores plus fresh market, trader joes & whole foods near me...

  • I buy Teddie Unsalted and it doesn't have to be refrigerated. I just use a butter knife to stir it each time. I find it's softer than other brands I've bought and easier to stir. I noticed one day it didn't say refrigerate after opening on the label so I Googled it and this came up:

It made me insanely happy because I hated refrigerating it.

  • I never refrigerate it and just stir it with a butter knife. It's usually fine after the first stir.

  • I don't refrigerate it and it's always fine. I stir with a butter knife.
