Favorite Beer?

Honestly I'm just trying to keep this board alive, as there appear to be no new posts here today at all. I don't like golf or care who wins the NBA finals, so beer it is.

I'm a beer snob and microbrew fan. I'm ok with Stella, but I'll go to the store and buy some good beer before drinking a miller lite. I am a huge fan of belgian style beers and definitely prefer porters and lagers over bitter IPAs.

  • Sorry to lurk, but I had to jump in on this one-- I like Yuengling personally.

  • My wife would argue that I am a beer snob.  I just say I enjoy quality beer over quantity these days.  I'm in San Diego where there is a huge and amazing micro brew scene so there is great stuff to choose from.  My favorite beer I have had is by Balliste Point it is a bourbon aged stout, Sea Monster.

Shame is I haven't really wanted beer since my wife has been pregnant.

  • Lurky lurker here, but I just had to post. Its really weird, but I never really feel too much like having a beer unless I am pregnant. Its weird! So I will just have to live Vicariously through you all haha.

For the record, I really enjoy Fat Tire as a regular anytime beer and Shock Top Raspberry is a good sweet/desserty beer. There is a hefeweizen that Rogue Ales makes that I really want to try called Mom Hefeweizin. (I'll admit that the thing taht caught my eye was the funny label and the fact that it was Rogue.) If anyone here gets a chance to try it, please let me know how it is!

A woman's life is nine parts mess to one part magic, you'll learn that soon enough...and the parts that look like magic turn out to be the messiest of all.

I second Spotted Cow.  Nothing better than a Spotted Cow on a Saturday watching the Badgers, or on a Sunday watching the Packers!

I love a Heineken whenever I am in the stands at Miller Park.

Does anyone outside of the state of Wisconsin know about Spotted Cow?  I know that there have been establishments that have gotten in trouble for selling it because it only has a Wisconsin liquor tax seal on it, not the national one.

  • I don't really like beer but Wood Chuck is OK... although I guess it is more of a hard cider. I
  • Guess I'm old school.

I drank Rolling Rock back in college and it's still my go to.

Butting in here (sorry!! I couldn't resist).  I'm pretty sure New Glarus makes it that way so that their beers and such cannot be sold outside of Wisconsin, and thus no one outside of the state would probably know about it.  Unless of course they are from Wisconsin.

its actually the liquor laws here that prevent it.  Has to do with how much is made vs the distribution laws of WI

There are some bars on the east coast that have been "raided" because they were selling Spotted Cow on tap there.  Read it on JS Online a few months back.  People outside of WI are very aware of how good SC is.

  • This thread is making me really excited to move back to WI.  When I lived there last I wasn't into beer so much and need to give spotted cow and the other new glarus brews another shot.  Lots of people from WI call spotted cow a tourist beer though.

uws22's DW butting in here - I have customers who visit from out of state that stock up on SC before leaving. It's their favorite part of the trip to WI. I've never heard it referred to as "tourist beer," but I like the term!

So funny, I have definitely heard that.  I really don't remember it being that good, but my palate has become more sophisticated in this realm so we will see.  My wife told me they had a special edition cherry stout in March.  So upset I missed that.
