Pregnant after 35

Recommendations for books to prepare dad?

MH told me tonight that he was nervous about being a good dad. He's AWESOME with children and people always say he's a natural, so I'm not worried, but I thought it could be helpful if he had a book or two that explained what the pregnancy was going to be like from a guy's perspective and a book that just explained some fatherhood stuff in the first year.

He had a really hard time understanding what it was like for me TTC-- and even thought he sort of got it for a bit most recently, he didn't really seem to appreciate all the hard work I had done with the charting and monitoring and researching until the RE said something about my charts and my level of preparation and knowledge coming into our appointment.

Anyone have any recommendations? Maybe a book or two that your DH/SO really appreciates or finds helpful?

  • I bought DH "So you are going to be a Father" by peter Downey.

It's a funny book writtenfrom a man's perspective but he writes about what dad's should expect when they are expecting and afterwards.  I really appreciated the part about "how many cameras to take to the birth"  because he was really focused on planning for that, and couldn"t understand why Iwasn"t.  Needlesto say we never got that far but anywho.

DH read/reads all my other pg books with me so he knows the medical side of things nd the developmenatl side of things about what was/is happening to me and the baby but that book made it about him too.

    Ditto this!

  • There are a couple of CAVEMEN BOOKS...one for expecting the baby and then babies first year.  I bought my husband on of them.  They are funny as well as helpful.  He actually loooked at it and read a bit of it.
  • I bought my husband "my boys can swim!" and he hated it! He said the author was a complete idiot and he wanted to punch him!

Another vote for this one. My husband never reads, and he enjoyed this.
