So my little sister got engaged a month ago and the family is now in the throws of planning a wedding. We spent 2 days wedding dress shopping over Thanksgiving and found the perfect dress for her. We've been talking about BM's dresses. She wants to be flexible, but isn't sure about what she wants....

Anyway, I'll be 4 1/2 months post PG when she gets married and I have no idea how to go about choosing a style of dress that may hide my post-PG flabby belly. Also, I have no idea what size I'll be. Hopefully, I'll be able to wait until after baby is born to get the dress. But I have a feeling that they'll want to order BM dresses before I'm due........ugh.

That's a tough one. I'd go with an empire waist and order a large size then just have it fitted right before the wedding.

I think pp's have said pretty much exactly what I was thinking. I'd order it based on your larger chest measurements anyway. You can always have it taken in easier than let out, that's my motto!

That's a good thought. I've heard from some ppl that most ppl are about the size they were at 6 months after having their baby. Anyone know how true this is??

A dress with a corset type (lace up back with boning) top will hide any leftover baby pounds.

I'm in the same situation, but I'm the MOH in a wedding where we were all told to choose our own dresses from a particular designer. When I called the local bridal shop, they told me I could order the dress after I give birth and still get it in time for fittings and the wedding. If you want to take advantage of the group rate, I would order two sizes bigger than normal and have it taken in.

(I'm sure the bridal shop has recommendations, too - they deal with situations like this all the time!!)

Just to throw this out there for you, we decided to move our wedding up a year this past spring (No, I was not pregnant yet). We set the date in May and got married in September. We ordered BM's dresses in mid June and paid a little extra for a double rush on them. Got them in August and all the girls had their alterations and dresses back with two weeks till the wedding. It can be done in 4 months.?

If they are ok with you waiting till after the baby, I would just order whatever size fits you at the time and then pay for alterations if you need them. If you order before you give birth I would maybe go up a size from prepregnancy. This way you have room to account for ?wider hips and boobs. But remember spanx do wonders for tummy camoflauge!

As someone who has big boobs already, I would not get a halter style. I think it just draws attention there (which...maybe you want!..haha). Depending on where you order, they should be able to get it to you within about 8 weeks and then another 3-4 weeks for alterations. Also, ask the people in the store what they rec. for sizing. I'm sure they deal with this ALL THE TIME! If you are nervous about a particular size, order a size up and then they can take it in where needed.

That's a pretty safe assumption. I wasn't back to my prepregnancy size by any means, but I wasn't quite as big as I was at 6 mo. preg. either. It's hard to describe. There was no big belly....just big ol' boobies because I was breastfeeding.

Ask around for a good local seamstress; the one that I work with altered the BM dress for the wedding I was in 3 weeks ago in 4 days' time- she wanted to wait to make sure that I didn't pop too much after we altered. That coupled with a fast dress turnaround time could allow you to order the dress after you've delivered. Good luck!

I just had to order a BM dress for a wedding I am in 5 months post PG... it's a dress that is on sale and will probably discontinue, so I had no choice but to order it now. I ordered a size bigger than my pre PG size... and I just hope I will have to have it taken in when the time comes.

I didn't have much say in the style dress... but it sounds like you will be able to choose something that will help you out (style/fit-wise). GL!

If you find a good seamstress, they can get it altered within days. It may cost a little more, but will be worth it. I think the empire waist dress is a good idea. J.CREW has some really cute dresses that are very forgiving

For my BM in the same situation we did empire waste adn then had them order up two sizes. I think it worked well. They all looked fab. on the wedding day so her seamstress knew what to do.

Good luck! I hope she chooses something flowy or empire waisted. I am a bm in my friend's wedding 6 weeks after I give birth; she left me a message today that she had chosen the dresses and I am a little scared to see what they look like. I know many women 4.5 months post partum that look amazing. If you ask the dress shop, they may be able to help you figure it out, since they probably deal with this kind of thing often. I plan on ordering a few sizes up, and then hopefully having them take the dress in. If you wait until after the baby gets here, it sounds to me like you'll still have plenty of time to order a dress and have a better idea of what size to get. Good luck to you!
