Reconciling our checking account each month puts me over the edge, I had to stop and put it away and go back tomorrow. We keep track of everything in Quicken and for the most part do a good job saving receipts from purchases with the Debit card but we miss lots of them (mostly DH) He loves to go buy crap for like $2 and $3 at the gas station and never gives me receipts. So anyways, it is really annoying me and I'm tired of sitting here trying to figure it out and he is wondering why I'm being such a *** right now. Now he just said, what is for dinner. Hmph!
Booze, it's what's for dinner

Re: Vent: reconciling checking account
We put everything on AMEX Blue cash. Then kust pay everything off at the end of the month. AMEX statement=track of all things bought=less confusion when working on our budget.
Plus, after a certain amt, CASH BACK!
Do you have Bank of America in your city? I can't recommend them enough for their online banking. It rocks my socks off. I HATE balancing checkbooks and monitoring interest earned and stuff.
They update debit and cc purchases immediately. Sometimes they have to classify them as "pending", but they always always always subtract them from the balance. So, if it doesn't go through or something...you've overcorrected. If that makes sense.
Seriously...its a life saver. That and I have one of those cute ancillary "keep the change" things. It subtracts my purchases in rounded-up, whole-dollar amounts and puts the change in savings. Hee!
Ooooh. See I check every time I buy something. Or if I go a few days between buying anything, I'll just log on real quick to make sure nothing is amiss.
I think that's all you have to do! Good luck
