I'm at doctors office and there is a 9 year old boy here with BOTH his parents. He appears to be sick. He is coughing NON STOP and has not once covered his mouth. Neither parent has said a single word to him. I am NOT okay with that as the parents are discussing his high fever and how sick he is. Not fair to the other people in the waiting room and i totally blame the parents. Rant over.
Re: Bad parents. IMO
Sick on one side, non sick on the other.

Oh I hate this! Or they will give them tylenol to bring the fever down and send them to school! The little ones are always so honest you know. They will always come tell me if they were sick the night before or that morning.

When I bring in sick kids I always call when I pull in and ask if they have a room I can brig my kid into since he won't wear a face mask. If hey say no I just give them my cell and say "call me when you're ready and we will come in. It's not fair to other patients to expose them to my sick kid."
I have also been known to say the above when there is a really sick kid in the waiting room. Either set us up in a room to wait in or I will wait outside the building.... Germs are everywhere, but if I can minimize my kids exposure I will
Our Peds office has a small separate room for babies up to 6 months old. The room has glass windows so you can see out to the reception desk and main waiting room and includes a lactation corner with partitions for privacy. The only drawback for me is that older siblings are now allowed in the room so if I have to take DS and he's not sick then I pretty much have to be in the "sick room" because DD is almost 3YO and not allowed.
And I agree with you that this poor kid has some parents that are lacking in the "common sense" area in that they don't insist he cover his mouth. I've been diligently working on this and other manners with DD and we are making some headway.
This is how our pedi is too. There is a completely separate room for well visits.

This. They also have a catagious entrance, and you go directly to a room.
This. Our ped has this too.....although they aren't very far apart. I cringe when I look at the Lego playtable in the "sick" area. With my OCD I want to go over and disinfect it!
My doctor's office has this too, but I don't think it does much. All the air is the same. Its like having a 'peeing section' in a pool.
