Cloth Diapering

Diaper Pail/Trash Can?

What do you use for your diaper pail?  I have pail liners but I don't know what to put them in.  I know a lot of you use trash cans--but do you use the kind with a step on thing for the lid or some other kind?  Do you prefer a stainless steal can because of the odor?

Re: Diaper Pail/Trash Can?

  • I have a white plastic step can from Target.  I usually place it outside to air out while I wash dipes and put a little Arm & Hammer deodorant disk in the bottom.

ETA: I wash the pail liner with the diapers.  I push the whole thing inside out so I don't have to touch the dipes as they go into the washer.

  • I use a white trash can no lid.  We never have any smell.

  • I have a plastic step can with a mesh laundry bag on the inside.

That way I can just grab the bag and take it downstairs.

  • I wash every day so I really do not notice an odor... I do sprinkle arm and hammer in the bottom of the pail and bleach the plastic pail once a week.
  • I use a step top trashcan with a cloth laundry bag from Wal-Mart.  It's worked great for us so far.  Only time we notice an odor is when we forget to close the top.

  • We use on of those slim fit white plastic trash can with foot pedal and lid.  Inside we use a planet wise pail liner.  I do laundry every 1.5-2 days and never notice a smell unless I leave the lid up by mistake.  It is not necessary for us to put in any arm & hammer or odor removers.

  • I use a Simple Human slim step can with a Planet Wise liner. It's been 95 here and we don't have AC, so there is a little smell right now. I was every other day.

We have the same trash can.  I use Planet Wise and Kissaluv pail liners.  I wash every other day.  Never had any smell issues.

  • I have a white plastic trash can; it's less than 2 feet tall and does not have a lid. I sprinkle a deodorizer in the bottom of it each time I empty diapers from it to wash them (3 times a week).  I wash the liner once a week.   I don't notice a smell, except maybe a pee smell when you're close to it, but that's about it. If we're having people over I stick the pail in the laundry room while they're there (it's in the living room).

  • I have a white plastic flip top kitchen-sized trashcan from Target. I use Planet Wise pail liners, and carry the bag downstairs and dump it into the washer (turning it inside out). I let the trashcan air out for a little while before I put the new pail liner in it. There is no odor, except for when I ran into stink issues with the diapers and had to strip. I have a separate hanging wet bag in the bathroom that I use for sprayed poopy diapers now that DD is eating solids.
