So I have been back at work for a month now and pumping regularly. I have never been a spectacular producer, the best I have been able to do regularly was 80mls in a session. But just this past week, when I should be going up in production instead I have gone down to doing 65 or even just 55 mls in a session.WTF!
In the past few weeks my baby - Matilda, 3 months old, but was 1 month premature - has decided to start sleeping through the night! She has a good dinner around 9pm and will wake up with me before work around 5 am. This has been wonderful for me (obviously), but now I am wondering if it is to blame for a drop in my milk production.
My question is - now that my sweet baby is really sleeping well, does that mean I seriously have to wake up to pump in the middle of the night if I want to bring my production back up???? Cause that is just mean.
Re: Drop in pumping
Have you changed your pump parts? Membranes, valves.,etc?
If there's a rip or tear in one of those you pumping output will go down suddenly.
Usually once a baby starts STTN, Mom should too. Your supply regulates over a week or (sometimes more). However, if you're having supply issues, it may not be a horrible idea to wake and pump during the night - or even add a pump right before you head to bed for the night.
If you're noticing a drop in suction, it could be the tubes or the membranes - not necessarily your pump. Check the white pieces and make sure there aren't any holes and/or tears. Even small ones can impact the suction. For me, when my suction was not terrific, I replaced the tubes and it made a world of a difference.
