1st Trimester

who's spotting?!? tmi

okay, so i've had spotting quite often over the past few weeks (various "reasons" i guess).  I've had an ultrasound and tests that confirmed everything was normal and at my first official appt i had a pap smear (last thurs).  I've been having brown spotting (pink at first) everyday since the pap smear.  i spoke with the doctor's office who said it's normal to have spotting after the exam.

My question is : how many of you have experienced frequent spotting?  I'm talking everyday/almost everyday for weeks?

I just went to the bathroom and got another "glob-like" thing too... i don't want to keep calling and freaking out if it truly is normal, but i can't help but feel like several weeks of spotting is not okay... any ideas what the glob-like thing is?  kind of mucas-y?  it's not huge, maybe dime-sized but stretchy...  gross, sorry.

  • I had that too and asked the board what was going on it's perfectly normal and unfortunately will start happening more frequently. But I freaked out too when I first saw it, it's nothing to worry about though

I spot after sex. I spot after paps (sometimes heavy and up to a week). I spot after internal ultrasounds.

    Normal.

  • I had spotting from week 8- week 11 that was due to a cervical polyp. I still have the polyp but thankfully haven't spotted in almost 2 weeks.
  • I've been spotting since week 4 day 5. I don't have any globs though.

  • thanks girls... glad to know i'm not the only one.  most people i talk to say "oh i never spotted, that's not normal" and it freaks me out!  i'll hold off on calling again until something really changes with it.

  • The glob-like thing is cervical mucous, or mucous plug. Your cervix is constantly making this mucous, as it prevents bacteria from entering the uterus and causing infection. You will probably see this a lot during the pregnancy. I had it pretty much throughout my last pregnancy!

Also, no amount of bleeding during pregnancy is "normal," but spotting during the first trimester is very common. Your cervix is very rich with blood vessels, and it's very easy to irritate the cervix and cause some spotting. Things like pap smears and deep penetration during sex can cause spotting. If your US showed that everything is normal, then try not to stress about it!

  • I have been spotting/bleeding since last Thursday, before my cervical check.  I have since also had an u/s and blood work and everything looks great.  I too, have globs here and there.

I also bled for 3 weeks during my last pregnancy, which was a month before, and had absolutely nothing to do with my miscarriage.  I also spotted for a week or more when pregnant with DD.

I just try not to let it bother me, it appears that this is a normal thing for me, and will just continue to happen.
