3rd Trimester

Bikini Wax ??'s

For those of you that are regular bikini waxers is it more painful to have done during pregnancy than it was before?? I really want to get well groomed down there but I am scared of the pain as it isn't the most enjoyable experience as it is...

  • I think it's a little more sensitive due to the blood flow.

But you can buy numbing spray (I got mine at Sally Beauty Supply and it's lasted a long time!) that works pretty well.  I'm 38.5 weeks and didn't feel much today.  I feel it was worse 1st trimester . . . .

Also look into getting hard wax vs hot wax.  That hurts a little less.  I find it's not as good as getting all the hairs, but maybe start w/ a hard wax and then have a hot wax a few weeks later to clean up.

I definitally like being well groomed before labor - with my first they called in the NICU team, so there were like 20 people in there to see everything and I was thankful I paid some extra attention to that area : )

  • I agree-- it hurt more first trimester than now, but it is still a bit more painful than usual. However, I had her leave a bit more hair than usual this time... I usually get a Brazilian, but because my mom will be in the room, and I don't want her to think that I am a sexual deviant, I had my waxist leave a "landing strip". The "landing strip" is usually the most sensitive part for me, so since she left that, it wasn't too painful.

I think that a good grooming will help with post-partum cleanliness!

  • I've only done it once this pregnancy (and a few times before that, not truly regularly although I was getting more into it since it's so much easier than trying to shave!) and I plan to do it again in a few weeks... but yes, it seemed to hurt so much now that I'm pregnant than before when I wasn't. I didn't make it as far, either--I had to tell the waxer to stop! That said, I'm determined to do it again since I can't exactly control (or even really see) what the situation is down there at this point.

  • It hurts a little more but I took tylenol before and used the numbing spray.  It helped, I didn't do the normal brazilian (scared it would be too painful).  I did the french (everything but the "landing strip").  I was fine.  My wax person said to come back monthly until my due date.  I also figured labor is pretty painful what's a bikini wax in the grand scheme of things :)

  • I don't think it hurts much more at all. I'm always surprised when people say hard wax hurts less than hot wax though. I thought hard wax hurt way worse. I guess it depends who's doing the work. For me, a slight bit of pain is worth it to stay perfectly groomed since I can no longer see down there.

  • I realized once I wrote this question that while waxing may hurt I'm sure it is a walk in the park compared to labor : ) Thanks for all of your input!

  • Does it hurt more, yes. I feel it is totally worth it.

  • I just had one today and it wasn't any worse than when not pregnant.  I haven't had one in months either so I wasn't "conditioned" to it as I know it gets less painful the more you do it.
