Clinginess?

Anyone experiencing this with their LO? It's been really bad the last few days, can't even put him down to pee without him crying. He wants to be right next to me all the time. I'm not sure if this is a phase or because he's been sick and wants his mommy.

Re: Clinginess?

  • C has been like this lately. I don't have to hold him all the time (but almost), but if I step out of his sight he enters meltdown mode.

It might be worse because he has been sick, but DD has been pretty clingy with me lately. God forbid I put her in the pac n play and try to do dishes or make lunch in the kitchen...she even will cry at times when DH holds her and she'll reach for me.

  • Yeah this is us too.  He gets especially clingy if there are people besides dh or myself around.  And he has a new fear of noises...the vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, food processor etc.  he used to not mind any of them.  Good thing it is warm out because I haven't been able to dry my hair in a week!

  • Yup, even when her Daddy is holding her if I walk out of the room she cries, and if I'm nearby she puts her arms out for me. If I try to give her to one of my parents, or the baby sitter, she turns towards me and snuggles up or holds on. She also cries if I leave the room. It's definitely new, especially leaning out or putting her arms out for me. I have to admit though, I've been waiting for that part...I think it's just the cutest thing. Me not being able to walk out of the room...not so much.

  • Definitely a phase, but could be worse b/c he's been sick.

If I have to go to the bathroom or wherever I make sure he's distracted by a toy. Doesn't always work but it does sometimes.

  • Both DD and DS have been like this lately. Maybe its something in the air :)

But it hopefully is just a phase.

Ha ha!  I just started taking him in with me and sticking him in the bathroom sink.  He loves to play with the faucet!  (Mommy of the year award, right here!)

  • My guy is doing this, too. He used to go right to sleep at night but now I have to really work it because if he notices I have left the room he cries. He also has started to put his arms out toward e, which melts my heart a little, but at the same time I am not ready for separation anxiety.

  • DD isn't that bad but she hasn't been her happy self while I am at work recently. Or with DH if I am home too.

  • Could it be the 26 week mental leap?  That's when they realize the relationship of distance.  So you taking a few steps away from lo, to them is like you leaving the house and disappearing all together.

I was just going to post this. The Wonder Weeks has saved my sanity a few times.

  • Yes! Little miss drama starts to complain if I even lean over and she thinks she's about to be put down. She cries when I put her on the change table but not if I sit next to her on the floor to change her. A lot of it has to do with time of day. The later is it the more clingy she is.

  • DS has been super clingy this week too.  I thought it was because he wasn't feeling well after his doctor's appointment, but that was on Tuesday and he's still super fussy.  Distractions aren't really working, and naps have been short.  It's been a long week.
