1st Trimester

Would I see my midwife for this?

Ok I know this is probably stupid. But I think I have a UTI should I see my midwife about that or a family Dr? TIA

  • Ok thanks, I just wasn't sure if it would be a midwife condition or if they would require me to go to a family dr.

  • I'd probably go through my OB/Midwife, only because UTIs during pregnancy can be really nasty as it relates to the possibility for kidney infections -- at the very least, make sure they're definitely aware of what's going on, since they may want to monitor your urine more frequently for signs of UTI-causing bacteria.

  • I always call my OB when I am sick.

I saw an urgent care when I was pregnant with DD, and the guy gave me meds I wasn't comfortable taking, and kept pushing really hard on my stomach (why was he feeling my stomach, when I had strep?)

Plus, if it is something like a sinus infection, my OB doesn't even make me see him, just calls in an rx.

  • I agree with PPs, call your midwife. There are certain types of antibiotics that aren't safe during pregnancy and she'll be more familiar with them.

  • Ok, thanks everyone, this is my first pregnancy and didn't want to be an idiot if I called them and then said sorry you need to see a family dr for that.

  • Just call them and ask who they think it would be better for you to see.  Each practice might have a different thought.

  • Midwife should be good...give them a call first to check. I know every state is different as far as rxs and midwives, but here in NJ my midwife can give me the medicine.
