Yesterday morning, I fell off a stepstool while unloading my dishwasher. I called my OB and because I smacked my hipbones and my bump, she sent me to labor & delivery for evaluation. I really thought this was just precautionary and they'd send me home in an hour, but the Dr. ran a KB test (indicating trauma to the baby) and I was having contractions 2 minutes apart-- I just didn't know they were contractions.
So they observed us for 12 hours-- fortunately, the baby seems fine and they slowed my contractions to every 5 minutes- and sent me home to wait out the early labor. I was between 1 & 2 centimeters when I left. My contractions are now 60-90 seconds, but no longer at regular intervals. I am so relieved that the baby's okay, and I don't want to go into labor before my body's ready, but at the same time, now I'm really anxious & scared. Has anyone gone through something similar? How long did your early labor last? How did you know when to go (back) to the hospital?
Re: Early labor trauma and drama
I am 38w 2d, so baby is full-term, but since I'm only 1-2 cm dilated, my body isn't ready, and I worry about the stress that could cause the baby.
That stinks that you fell. How far along are you?
With DD1 I was in early labor for 3 weeks, before my water broke. I went into labor at 32 weeks and my water broke at 35w 4 days. I was not dialating so, was given pitocin. DD1 was born 22 hours after my water broke.
Rest and drink lots of water.
