Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Not wanting to eat...

My son (10 months old now) has always been a great eater- both nursing and solids.  But recently he's been refusing most foods, even things that have been our go-tos in the past.  I can only count on him eating berries.  Everything else is hit or miss.

Has anyone else gone through this?  Something to be concerned about?  Just a phase?  I'm getting tired of preparing things that I know he'll eat only for him to throw them all on the floor for the cat...

Re: Not wanting to eat...

  • It's normal for kids to love a food one day and refuse it the next. All part of learning how they can/cannot control their little world :) Just keep offering a variety of foods, he'll come back around eventually.

  • Thanks memali- that's a good way to look at it.  He's sure figured out that he has control of things.  I'll just keep trying things.  Hopefully he decides that a diet of berries is boring pretty soon.

  • My DS is going through this now too.  It started about 3 weeks ago.  He may or may not eat his solids (breakfast & dinner) depending on the day, but he always eats his lunch & snack.  He also goes from about 9am until about 3pm and takes only about 2-3 oz of his bottle (he used to take 2- 5oz bottles during this time).  I ended up calling the pedi and making an appt because of his lack of eating.  They said it was normal & he had actually gained some weight.  I am hoping it's just a phase because I don't like him going so long without much to drink.  GL!

  • Yeah. Just a phase. I'd just keep offering.

My rule is, "Well she either eats or she doesn't. She won't starve."

One day my kid can't get enough of everything and the next she won't even touch her favorites.

I guess adults do it too. We all have days where we're starving and the next nothing looks good.

  • DD has always refused most food especially baby food. but lately I notice she really goes through phases like this too. She will eat so good for a couple days then not much for a couple days ect.. I hate it  because she is so tiny. 11months and about 17lbs
