For those who clicked "close to walking"

I posted a CPW yesterday asking about walking. There were quite a few who said "any day now". So it got me wondering, what is your LO doing that indicates it will be "any day". Are they standing on their own? Are you not counting a few steps as walking, so just said any day? DS has been cruising for over 3+, almost 4 months, and we thought he'd be early to walk, and here he is, still cruising away. I know if he walked now it'd still be "early", but I don't see it happening, he is just too scared to let go. If we try to get him to walk holding one hand, or to stand with no hands, he just sits right down, and yet he can stand with no arms just resting slighting against his belly, or holding on to his play yard with 1 finger, so I think it's just a fear thing. I am not concerned, so this is not that type of post, just curious what you consider "very close".

Re: For those who clicked "close to walking"

  • I clicked close to walking, and pretty much same as you LO is an expert cruiser, loves to push things around and walk or hold our hands and walk, and he can stand independently but won't take any steps. He will crawl if he needs to get farther than he can reach between objects. If I take a step back he will sometimes throw his upper body at me without moving his feet lol.

I don't know if it's fear or he just isn't ready yet. He is definitely closer than a month ago when he was just getting interested in cruising. I figure he will walk in the next month or two - so totally average time frame. But it could be any day now based on how much he's working at it.

  • My DS is doing exactly what your LO is doing.

DH thought he would be walking by now, but I definitely think it will be at LEAST another month.

But, then again...I didn't think he would crawl either (he was a pro at butt scooting).  Kids amaze you how fast they do something!

I agree, exactly! We thought he'd never traditional crawl because he loved to army scoot and cruise. DH also thought he'd be walking by now, he said "10 months for sure" but I know that's really early. I think like crawling, it will just one day click that "hey, that's a faster way to get around!" and I'm sure it will be when we least expect it.

  • DS cruises with one hand and is usually not facing the object he is hold.

He lets go and stands when he has no low clue he's doing it: like when he reaches for a toy with his stabilizing hand or when I stand up abruptly and he's been using me for support.

He also has been thinking about taking steps forward. You know where there body turns and they go to do it but hesitate? He's been doing that a lot. Or he'll actually take a step but then get freaked out and go down to crawl.

  • M can walk with a walker and has taken 3-4 steps between me and my husband. She can walk holding on to one of hands for a long period of time. Some people might consider her a "walker" but she can only do it (without a walker) if we set her up and get her steady and give her a stopping point a couple of steps away. she's not walking around the house (yet!)
  • Mine just started standing on her own on Sunday. She was able to stand unsupported in her playpen for a few weeks, but I didn't really count that the same as her just standing up in the middle of the floor. Still I don't know how close she is to walking. She'll walk with her push walker, but if she attempts to take a step on her own she immediately falls to the floor. So it could be any day, or it could be months LOL

She's cruising on furniture and can stand momentarily on her own. She's also taking a step here and there...I guess it could still be a while but I'm figuring it'll happen sooner than later.

I'd say the same if he was standing on his own, and especially taking a few steps!

  • I also clicked "close to walking." DD cruises on furniture, stands on her own, walks while holding on to one of my fingers, and loves pushing her own stroller. :)

for any babies doing this sort of thing it will be any day now!! H did this and all of a sudden let go :) now I find that she'll walk along furniture and then realize there isn't anymore and lets go. At that point I get down at her level and tell her to come to me and I'm there when she decides to "run" and fall a step too soon (and by this I mean she lunges towards me!)

  • For us it's because she has taken those few tentative steps to "walk" in between things, like the coffee table to the couch.  Also, she has just stood up, unassisted, from a sitting position several times.  She loves walking holding on to stuff like the couch, cupboards, anything really, and walking along them one or two handed.  In our case, the only thing holding her back from out right walking is she is still on her tippy toes.  I am not sure if that is normal but if she could just get the hang of flat footed she would be a walker instantly.

  • He cruises, can stand on his own, pushes things to walk behind, walks holding our hands, has taken steps on his own. He could be 6 more months, he could walk tomorrow theres no telling with this stuff.

I dont count any of the above as walking. Until he just takes off its not real.

  • Dylan is cruising, standing unassisted, and walks holding onto one hand.  He is very cautious though.  I think we have at least another month.
