So this pregnancy has made me extra randy. Is it safe to continue taking my birth control pills? Twins run in my family and I really, really, really do not want Irish Twins!
Do you know what "Irish twins" are? Just start taking the pill as soon after you give birth as your OB will allow. I don't think you can take it when BFing.

Lame muddy question. Born within 12 months=irish twins. Oh, and I am Irish, not offended. I suppose you can call them "seperated twins" or something, but seriously?
I always thought Irish twins were siblings born on the same month & day but different years.
No. The PPs have it right. Babies born within a year of each other, though some definitions will allow for babies born within 16 months of each other, too.
And to the PP who mentioned it, yes. It is a bit offensive.
Seems a lot more common that way.
Also, I never understood the Irish reference. Nevermind, I think I just made the necessary connections I just hadn't considered the stereotypes before. There definitely needs to be a new term coined for this.
Definition: The term is used to describe two children born
to the same mother in the same calendar year or within twelve months of
each other. The phrase originated as a derogatory term associated with
Irish immigration to the United States and England in the 1800's. The
implication was that large groups of close-in-age siblings were the
result of uneducated, poor Irish Catholic families' lack of birth
control as well as self-control.
In modern use, the term is not
intended as an insult, but rather a description of siblings born close
together. Irish twins are not actually twins and they are not the same
as having twins, which are defined as two siblings born from the same
gestation.
Also Known As: Irish triplets when three children are born to the same mother within three years.
Examples:
A
mother gives birth to one baby in January of 2007 and another child in
December of the same year. Or, alternatively, a mother births a child in
August of 2007, becomes pregnant again in October, and gives birth to
another child in July of 2008.

Irish twins are 2 babies bor within the same year...right?
Yeah 2 in the same year. You can't get pregnant when you're already pregnant though so taking BCP during your current pregnancy will do nothing but screw with your hormone levels.

irish twins are babies born within 12 months or less of each other ..two seperate pregnancies
seriously. some people need to think about things before they say them. So rude.
Why is it offensive? I am Irish.
Just don't smoke pot. MJ during pregnancy = bad
