Anyone diagnosed with migraines?

I was diagnosed with migraines in college.  It starts with the aura that usually grows until I can't see.  That's followed by hours of intense pain and nausea.  I figured out that muscle strain in my shoulders and upper-back was the trigger, so once I stopped sitting certain ways the migraines stopped.  Until I got pregnant... I have had four migraines since I found out I was pregnant.  Even when I had severe migraines in college I would usually only get them once a month (not around my period).  Now I'm wondering if hormones or something could be triggering it because I can't seem to figure out why I keep getting them.  Does anyone know if the chances for migraine headaches goes up with pregnancy?  What do you do to help with the pain and fatigue when you get them?

  • I've suffered with migraines since the age of 13 and they actually went away completely for the most part January of 2011 when I stopped taking BC and ate better. Since getting pregnant I've had 2.

    It's definitely not uncommon for migraines to increase during pregnancy. I ended up in the ER over one and the best combination (dr approved) that I have found that personally helps me. Is taking a tylenol (I just take generic 325mg) and a benadryl along with a small glass of soda (or crystal light energy pack - 60 mg of caffine) and that normally does the trick if I catch it right at the beginning - if I don't then Phenagren is what does the trick - but I'll be asleep for the rest of the day.

  • I was diagnosed a few months ago but have been getting them for years. I have to stay on top of them - staying hydrated & eating at the same times/similar things helps. If I stick to a routine I usually can prevent them. If I get one I drink a small 90 calorie coke & sit in the shower with the lights off relaxing for like... 40 minutes! Usually it puts me in a good place to go to sleep and wake up without one.

    This.  I also go to a chiropractor and that also seems to have helped.

  • I get horrible hormonal migraines, every month like clock work.  However, I didn't get one this month when i found out I'm pregnant.  I'm hoping that they will decrease because i'm pregnant...only time will tell!  I'm nervous because I obviously won't be able to take my migraine medicine with them, and I get violently ill with them.
