Hi, I am 10 weeks pregnant and last week I had by fist OB appointment. My OB went over a lot of information with us and one that stuck and that is freaking me out is the SequentialScreen. Both my boyfriend and I are really healthy with no family history of any genetic disorders. My doctor though stated that it would be a good idea to still do the screening and explained how everything will go. I?m not afraid of doing the initial test but about getting the results, due to that the pamphlet she gave us says that there are a lot of "false" positive results and that freak me out.... What is we have a false positive and they have to move on to further testing??? I don?t want to risk the chance of losing my baby but at the same time I won?t to know any issues my baby may have...... I don't know what to do!
Re: SequentialScreen----I'm freaking out!!!
If you don't want to do the screening you shouldn't have to. Just tell your OB you want to opt out.
It's your baby. It's your choice.
Mama to Mason (7) and Asher the Crasher (3).
Married to Topher (10 years). 32 years young in Oklahoma.
My DH and I opted out we did not want to do any invasive testing like amniocentesis if it was a false positive and didn't want to stress and worry till the baby was born if it was a false positive. And if something was wrong with our baby we would never abort. So we didn't do it, it's entirely up to you
We opted out of the testing. My doctor actually said most women in my age group (Im 26 BF is 28) don?t do the testing unless they have specific family history or concern. It is your choice and I?m surprised that your doctor is actually pushing it on you. Do you own research and decide for yourself if it?s something that you and your SO want. I think there are a lot of positives in doing the testing however it just wasn?t for us and I?m comfortable with our decision.
If you would rather not know then you can opt out. But I would suggest not focusing on the false positives but rather the good knowning ahead of time if something is wrong. (which is very unlikely) Even if you would not terminate you can have specialist doctor care while pregnant, the right people at the delivery, educate yourself, etc.
I was very stressed before getting the NT but now that I have my results I feel much better. Opting out would have only made me stress the whole time.
Thank you elmoali.
I would link you to a long discussion on 2Tri, but I don't want to freak you out more.
It's a personal decision and only you and your SO can really make it for you.
