Feeling HOT HOT HOT!!!

Our house has no A/C and I'm going to lose my mind! I hate being hot and sticky period, but this is ridiculous... I'm sitting in front of a fan on blast and have been for the past hour but I feel like I just ran a marathon through the Sahara dressed in 2 layers of winter clothes. Our bedroom is literally a sauna all summer, and to top it off I NEED covers on to sleep.

DH says we'll get A/C this year. My fingers are crossed, but I can't hold out much hope because he said that last year too. We have a pool, but with the little ones I look after, I can't really stay in there all day.

Anyone else having a hard time with summer so far?

Re: Feeling HOT HOT HOT!!!

  • Can you guys get a swamp cooler in the meantime? Those things can be pretty powerful and helpful in a hot and humid summer.

You can also get like 10 fans and point them all directly at you. :)

When I had an apartment w/out AC several years ago I had a window fan in every window (the swamp fan didn't really work for me). Nonetheless, it was still miserable and my landlord wouldn't let me get a window unit b/c our wiring was REALLY old. Any chance you could get a window unit for one room and chill out in there (that's what my grandparents do)?

We could, but I do home daycare, so I'm sort of all over the place during the day. It would probably be good for at night in the bedroom though. I know they're on sale right now, maybe I'll have to give DH an ultimatum... central air or window shaker, take your pick!

Blowfish, what on earth is a swamp cooler? Never heard of it!

  • Swamp coolers are generally used for dry heats, not humid.  We had one in AZ.  It uses water to cool your house, but I'm not exactly sure HOW it works.  It makes it more humid though, so you generally want to avoid them if it's already very humid in your area.

  • Get a bucket/big bowl of ice and put it in front of a fan blowing at you.

Run your wrists under cold water for like 30 seconds.

I lived in a really crappy studio apartment last year with no a/c. It flucking sucks.

  • I have been having issues too... mostly with feeling more nauseated when it is really hot outside.  So, I've been staying inside when I can!

My recommendations are drinking lots of water, and taking cool showers.

Or take a gallon milk jug and cut the top off. fill it with water... freeze. Then put in front of the fan.. takes a long time to melt this way.

  • I don't have it quite that bad, we have ac at work and home, but I drive an old car that the ac has decided to quit it, and I live in the hot, sticky, humid south and have to driver at least 20 mins each way to and from work everyday.....ugh! It's gonna be a LOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGG summer....
