I've never in my life heard someone say "MAY-uh" for that name.
This.
OP: If anything, I would understand Mya being pronounced as Mia. Also, Maya has more history (etymology-wise) than Mya. I think it also just looks more pleasing.
I think your H wins this one. Mya will be pronounced Mia (MEE-uh) much, much more often than Maya will be mispronounced MAY-uh. Mia is a top-10 name (#9 in Ohio!). MAY-uh is . . . not a name. Or, at least, not one that I have ever heard or read. Horses, not zebras.
I love the name Maya. I am not a fan of the Mya spelling. I think most people are familiar with the more common spelling "Maya" especially if they have ever heard of possibly the most famous living poet of our time Maya Angelou.
My niece is Mya (pronounced My-ah), but everytime DH sees it, he grumbles that it looks like Mee-ah. I've NEVER seen anyone pronounce Maya other than as My-ah.

This.Mya seems like a bastardization of Maya.
Actually, my real favorite spelling (which I actually considered) is Maja, the Scandinavian spelling. But I'm probably alone here on that one.

Maya = my-ah
Mya looks like it's spelled wrong.

Have only ever heard Maya be pronounced my-uh. Mya doesn't look right to me.
Your husband is right. Mya is actually a variant of Mia --
