look out tubes, here we come

You know, I am really starting to kick myself for signing up for a stupid HSA this year and not a traditional insurance plan!

  • Tubes have been great - following up with the doc tomorrow and cant wait for the report on her hearing - hope the HSA does not make it too difficult

  • Good luck!  I keep getting the 'explanation of benefits' for B's tubes and I'm constantly amazed at how much things cost.

Can you give me a general idea?  I did finally get her an appointment for the ENT next week and I have already talked to the billing company they use to get a feel for not the cost but what I will be dealing with as I have the HSA and how willing they would be to work with me.

*butting in* I just got our bill for the tubes, it was around $4500.

Holy hell.  Well...guess I would definitely end up reaching my deductible this year.

*Note to self...go back to the good insurance plan at annual enrollment time.

I know, for something that literally took 10 minutes!  The biggest fees were the anesthesia and the recovery room.

  • We've gotten one EOB for over $900, and another for over $300.  That's without the EOB for the meds, though, and that's usually what costs the most.  He was in the hospital for about 2 hours counting pre-op, the 15 minute surgery, and post-op. That's also not counting the ENT visits pre and post op.

The EOBs always amaze me.  I just got one not too long ago that was for my week-long hospital stay last June for B's birth!
