Needing an Awesome Hostess Gift Idea

So my hostesses (who are my husband's cousins) deserve awesome hostess gifts for a few reasons.

1. They were able to reschedule my shower around my surgery, even though it was a last minute rescheduling.

2. They have been flexible, despite the fact their dad just had a stem cell transplant and has been in and out of the hospital for leukemia for the past several months.

Also my MIL is not an official hostesses, but has been helping with invites and cake and other stuff. What should I get her? I do have a few limitations though: I lost my job and benefits, so less income and more expenses from COBRA and whatnot. Also, I am mostly bed bound until the shower because of my broken ankle and can't drive. So I am kinda lost as to what I could make or if there was anything anyone could think of that I could order online. Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • I always find great stuff on etsy! I got keychains made for the grandmother and godmother (co-hosts) with their "title" and the babys name! Here's a link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/buttonit

  • My wife and I decided to get all of her hostesses (there are 6!) MAC gift cards....they come in a mirrored case (I forget what the actual thing is called) that they can keep in their purse.

The gift within a gift helped, and since it's make-up we didn't feel the need to go crazy expensive since there are 6 of them and we have a baby coming. But we think it's still a nice gift.

You can order over the phone to have delivered or send someone out to pick them up...gift cards are easy and if you send a dude he wont have to go far into the store.

  • One of my shower is being hosted by my husbands aunts. There's 3 or 4 of them (I have to find out if the 4th one is helping). I was thinking of either buying or making them those mason jars filled with cookie mixes. You know the ones that are layered with the ingredients, look really cute, and you just add the wet ingredients. I think its something they would enjoy.

I don't know what I'm going to get my MIL and SIL for the shower they host. They are harder to shop for.

  • So I feel really silly now. I guess I don't really lurk on the hostess gift questions enough. What kind of gifts are standard? I thought it was supposed to be something crazy like a spa gift certificate or something.

  • I think it just depends on the people who are hosting. DH's aunts live in the middle of no where and they aren't spa people. However, my MIL would probably like a gift certificate to go towards her manicures!! So thank you for that idea!!

  • perhaps a gift certificate to get a pedicure.  They can sit back and relax for an hour. If you do that, make sure you include the tip!
  • Two of my closet friends are Co-hosting my baby shower and i plan to make each of them wine baskets. I'm gonna hand paint some wine glasses with their favorite flowers/colors.  with some chocolates and cheese that complement the wine.

i would try and make the gifts you do choose more personal. i think it would mean more if it is something you know they would love vs. some random gift set or anything like that. Even a gift certificate to somewhere you know they love or go to alot would be a good choice. Hope this helps.

  • I bought each of my hostesses a nice, lined canvas bag with their first initial engraved on the front.  Then I filled it with random gifts: a small book, decorative picture frame,  nice water bottle, decorative magnets, a few other items...  I really couldn't come up with ONE gift that I knew would wow them, so I went this route instead.

This way they would have something practical - the canvas bag, and hopefully they would enjoy at least a few of the items I chose.  If nothing else it is fun to open a bunch of little gifts.  And the canvas bags are really quite nice. :)
