How often do you hold your LO?

In the past week to a week in a half my DD has been pretty content whether its in my arms, the swing, her nap nanny, or on her play mat. She is pretty much cool wherever I put her and will fuss a bit if she wants to be held or moved.

So, I have been letting her hang out. I sort of started to feel a bit guilty because I wasn't holding her as much as I did in the first few weeks. I pick her up and rock her ever so often but all in all she is pretty much content with whatever.

So how often do you hold your LO's? Should I feel guilty about letting her chill and play?

Re: How often do you hold your LO?

  • I hold my LO typically when he is awake because he is not always content with chilling out by himelf but sometimes he enjoys it.  When he gets fussy sometimes I lay him down and he babbles to himself and looks at the mobile on his pack n play.  It was almost like he wanted to lay down and stretch by himself.  I wouldn't feel bad about letting her chill by herself sometimes.  As long as you are giving her attention periodically, which it sounds like you are, she will be fine.  You are lucky to have a content baby!  It makes it easier to get stuff done around the house.

  • My answer to this varies quite a bit depending on DD's mood on a given day. Some days she wants to be held a lot, while on other days she is content to relax in her swig. I say, grab those hands-free moments when you can because there's no guarantee you'll get them the next day!

  • DD gets warm really fast (just like her daddy) so if we hold her for too long in this summer heat she sweats like a beast and fusses even though we keep her down to her diaper most of the time. She's happier just being in her chair, crib or on the floor. We just try to give her more face time without a lot of touching. She seems content so we just follow her cues. She lets us know when she really wants to be held and for how long.

  • I agree with the previous posts. DD wants to be held pretty much all the time. I've tried the swing and the vibrating seat but she's rarely content in either one. She does seem to enjoy laying in her crib and watching the mobile go around but other than a few minutes at a time, she doesn't like to chill out on her own.

Ditto. Just enjoy a few moments to yourself, nothing wrong with that!

  • Definitely easier to count the times she let's us actually put her down. Enjoy it while you can

  • I remember feeling that way with my first. I quickly learned everyday would be different. There were some days she just wanted to be held. Then there were days she was so content to lay and kick and coo.  I really just let her guide me.
  • A lot. He will only chill by himself if he's already been rocked to sleep in our arms. once he wakes up he needs to be picked up again or will just cry. We're kinda wondering if he's colicky.
Nevermind me, I'm too distracted by my mini-carrots to think properly image

  • I hold her when she wants to be held.  If she'll sleep or sit quietly, I take advantage!  It's nice to be able to throw in a load of laundry without her crying.  I am trying to get her on the floor and into more structured tummy time though - so if she seems content in my arms and sans pacifier for awhile, I flip her over onto her tummy until she fusses (she has no issue with being on her stomach, except she has a harder time keeping the pacifier in).  I figure, she can't be spoiled, she's only getting bigger and I'll be back at work soon and won't have much time.  I want to get in the snuggly time while I can.

  • Definitely don't feel guilty! I figure, as long as he's happy, I'm happy. So, if he wants to be held, great! If he is content lying on a blanket or in his bassinet or wherever, that's great too! I'm trying to just go with the flow.
