WWYD - 2 day shopping trip

I am going on a shopping trip with my mom and sisters July 6 and 7. I am debating on taking DS. He does not travel well but my only other option is to leave him with DH's grandparents. They are in their 70's but his grandpa does not hold babies and his grandma can barely get out of a chair by herself. They have never seen a gtube before much less given meds in one and I don't think they would be able to even put the plug in if DS pulled it out. What would you do, get over it since DH trusts them or take him along?

Re: WWYD - 2 day shopping trip

  • I wouldn't leave him. A baby is a lot of work for an able bodied person, I can't imagine it for someone who doesn't get around well.

  • I have no experience with the gtube issued but if it were me I would not leave him. I am always worried about others caring for my baby and this would be really hard. If you hadnt said the barely gets out of the chair and the other things...maybe. Dh parents are 70 but in good health. If I had to I would leave him but wouldnt want to for a whole day.

  • It doesn't sound like the grandparents are really able to care for the baby. DH isn't an option for 2 days while you have a girls trip?

  • I'd keep him with me.  Better to have mom and sis as my wingmen than DH's grandparents who aren't physically able to care for him.  Dare I say - this is pretty straightforward.

Thanks guys. Every time I have ever said we need someone to watch DS, he brings up his grandparents. I just thought maybe I was missing something?? I think I'll have plenty of help from the girls while we shop, so I'm sure it will be fine. It needs to be a Friday and Saturday to work out with everyone's schedules, DH is unwilling to take a day off work. Not a huge deal, just the price I pay to SAH I suppose.
  • I suppose part of the joy of mommyhood is giving up some things we used to love

  • I'd definitely bring him.
