Semi-long...My apologies
Born 6/20/2012 6:32am 7lbs 10oz
A successful (long) induction!
Entered the hospital Monday night at 7:30pm. Cervadil was placed around 8:30pm. was approximately 1cm and 50%.
Woke up with mild, semi frequent contractions around 5am. Pitocin was started just before 8am. They broke my water at 9am. Labored throughout the day. Checked at 3pm and had progressed to only 3cm. The contractions at this point were supper intense. Decided to get an epidural as I wasn't progressing well and was starting to get tired.
Once the epi was placed, I was able to get a nap in. Continued to labor through the night. My progress was super slow and I was getting dehydrated (despite the fact they were pumping me with fluids). Around 1am, my uterus was showing sings it was tired. The contractions were getting too close together without any intensity. So, they turned down the pit, upped my fluids, and placed an internal contraction monitor.
Things continued this way for a bit and they decided to try to get things going again by turning up the pit. This seemed to do the trick. Contractions picked up in intensity once more.
Around 5am I started feeling intense pressure that wasn't dulled with the epi. Tried to deal with this for a while. Finally felt the pressure move lower and my amazing nurse let me start pushing just before 6am. The baby was sunny side up for some of the pushes, then turned sideways and ended up facing the right way by the time she was delivered.
Baby Harper arrived with a good set of lungs on her. She was also a surprise (we were team green) to everyone present as everyone was convinced we were having a boy! She arrived with some lovely bruises and marks on her head, but is otherwise completely healthy and happy. She is probably going to be a stubborn little one as I'm convinced she didnt want to come out. And then when forced out, wanted to make everyone wait until her actual due date (6/20). I did end up with second degree tears, but nothing major. We're still trying to figure out this whole breast feeding thing but my dh and I are so excited about this new chapter in our lives!
