2nd Trimester

I have eczema. Ahhh! Any non-medical solutions?

I have been experiencing eczema for about about six years now. In the past I've used prescribed steroid creams or Cortizone. I'm 14 weeks pregnant and my eczema is SCREAMING on my inner arms and legs. This 90 degree weather hasn't helped either. Does anyone have a regiment or gentle remedy that you have been using now that you are pregnant? I want to enjoy the pool, but right now I don't want anyone to see my legs or deal with the pain in the sweaty heat.

This is a weird solution but try something called "Grandpas Pine tar soap"  It smells like a campfire but it totally works on any kind of skin issue.

  • I've always used aloe or super thick cetaphil cream. Let it soak in at night when you're just relaxing.

this works some but finding that Lush Dream Cream has been working wonders.  Odd but I am swearing by this stuff.

  • Eczema can be aggravated by dairy products, so try limiting your intake for a while and see if it helps.  Hemp oil or coconut oil can also be applied directly to the affected areas to help relieve the dryness and heal some of the damaged skin.

  • I've used the Eucerin Cream in the past and thought I'd slather it on at night. Where do I find the Lush Dream Cream? The name alone sounds soothing.
  • I've read about the dairy products. However, I've been craving milk lately!! But, going to try to limit it and try to get calcium in other places.

Our derm had me use the CeraVe body wash on DD and slather her 2xs per day with the Cerave cream (not lotion, creams are thicker). It definitely made a huge difference. I can actually feel the moisture in the water when I am bathing her. I am a total believer! Aquaphor and Aveeno did nothing for my DD.

  • Mine flared up big-time early in 1st tri. My OB cleared a low-dose prescription that I had been given a few months' prior. I would get to a dermatologist and have them talk with your OB about what you can take.

Aveeno does make an eczema lotion that helps, but it wouldn't help when you have a flare up. GL, I can definitely sympathize. It sucks.

  • I switched to washing with the neosporin eczema wash and use the healing lotion. It really took the edge off, I had to get a prescription hydrocortisone because my eczema it would wake me up at night. Now I can actually wear my wedding ring again.

  • I also suffer. I find cocoanut body butter from the body shop helps and oatmeal baths. Avoid anything with the word lotion as it usually contains alcohol which will dry out the skin.  Try not to shower daily if you can help it and I found the olive oil body wash from the body shop has also helped. It doesn't contain traditional soap ingredients but gently cleanses.

My doc says Cortizone 10 is okay when pregnant. I still try to use it sparingly, but I have used for 2 -3 days every few weeks to help control flare ups. Mine have also been very small.

  • The National Excema Society suggests FreeDerm which is an all natural cream made of Oregon grape seed oil. Plus, if it doesn't work in 3 days they completely reimburse you all of your money...it does however work that quickly!

I use this on my eczema. It does wonders. It takes a day or two to really clear up when I have my flair ups, usually on my hands and feet, and it does soak in as well as lotion does, but I always use it right after washing my hands or showering and right before I go to bed. Just try your best to keep the area as moisturized as possible.
