He's in DC 4 days a week, but I still don't watch him that 5th day, so we're in a similar boat. I'm planning on starting to potty train next Spring, and hopefully have him potty trained sometime during the summer. To be honest though, I have no idea what to expect with any of that, so maybe we'll start later and it'll only take a week?!
At age 2 of after- will play it by ear based on her maturity/signs she's ready/and of course, how able I am to help with the new baby.
ditto. This was the approach we took with my older son, just waited until he showed signs of being ready and interested; he was about 3 weeks away from his 3rd birthday and it took less than a week. I am keeping my fingers crossed that his little brother follows in his footsteps!!!
This. I was actually kind of hoping we could let daycare call the shots with this. They've potty trained tons of kids and I have potty trained zero, so I'm looking forward to their advice
Glad to see I am not crazy. My mom asked my about potty training yesterday. I told her I think they start in the 2 yr old class. She told me that is too old. Then she rehased the story of me being completely potty trained by 1.
She was a SAHM, my kid goes to DC. Not the same thing!

I think I shared this before, but my grandmother claims to have potty-trained all of her children (four) at age 1. Stella's not even walking yet, so I must give the eye roll here. And, of course, G-ma was a SAHM.

Grr I am irritated b/c I feel like she is judding me for not being a SAHM. It is not like I was even complaining about the cost of diapers or anything! Stay out of it mom!

As long as C is potty trained by 3, I'll be happy. If you rush kids (and I've heard especially boys), they will have a lot more accidents than those who aren't rushed. IMO, trying to potty train before age 2 is redic.
Um...physiologically not possible to be "potty trained" by one. Myelination of the nerves that control bladder and bowel doesn't even finish by 18 months for most kids. That means they have NO control over when they pee or have a bowel movement. I am thinking what your parents must be referring to is "Elimination Communication", where parents learn when their kids typically go to the bathroom and then rush them onto the toilet.
Please do not get in a hurry to potty train right now gals. Your kiddos will do it when they are ready. Most kids these days are not potty training until about 2.5, and even then, I think the number is 30% not until three. Just sayin.
But I am super excited that I do have DD potty trained as of last week!!! Woooo hoooo!!!!!
Vigurl: I think this may be one of those times when grandmas remember things through rose colored glasses. I know lots of sahms, and none of them potty trained until 2.
I have no idea whether grandma is recalling correctly but I did read an article about how mothers used to potty train young because of the inconvenience of diapers. We have it easy. Even moms who CD. Also, the diapers are sooooo good at keeping the wet away that babies aren't bothered by it.

Totally. Potty training is awesome, but starting too early will only lead to frustration for you and your LOs.
DS was potty trained by the time he was 2.5, which is on the young end, but he was showing all the signs of being ready. (And we STILL have setbacks and accidents, so it's not like it's the end of ever having to deal with cleanup.)
I have no goals for DD. When she starts showing an interest, we'll take it from there.

Quite a few of my SAHM friends are planning to potty train their 12/13 month old this summer and I think they are crazy. I have no desire to and e she had not shown any signs of being ready.
A Serbian friend told me that it is common in eastern Europe to potty train children when they turned one. I don't know if that is true or not.
I'll wait until V shows signs and probably let him run around naked for a couple days to figure it out. My nephews' babysitter potty trained all three of the boys by letting them run around outside naked (my sis lives in the country...very secluded). She taught them to pee on trees when they had to go. It worked pretty well. LOL.
It was really common back then to ptrain that young back in the day. DH's gma has the same story about her 4 kids.
DD is still not ptrained. As nice and "fun" as it sounds, it is a crummy experience. She should be trained by the fall, but who knows. Kids are so stubborn and having my little terror DS makes it hard. He gets into all types of things while I am helping her. I will also say I tried at just 2 years, and it was really not happening. Don't force it or you will be ptraining forever. My girlfriend has been since November and it is horrible. I'm hoping to bang it out way sooner than that since she is a little older.

This. I'm really in no hurry. My plan is to try next summer. We'll probably just let her run around with her diaper off as much and often as we can.

Ditto, haven't even thought about it.
