My DD is going through a growth spurt and we actually had to supplement with formula last night bc she was still so hungry. I cried. I was caught off guard with this growth spurt, as she recently decided she doesn't want to nurse, so I think my body wasn't "forwarned" about the spurt coming on.
I drank some beer last night, a ton of water, had fenugreek and am adding in an extra pumping session today. Also, I am pumping for 5 mins longer than usual (after their all dried up to try and sumulate a growth spurt)
Can I do anything else?! If you EP, how on earth do the boobs "communicate" with the baby to know the baby needs additional calories?!?
Re: EPers, how do you increase supply during a growth spurt?
Freezer stash
.
There isn't a way for the boobs to communicate with the baby during a growth spurt. You don't know when they'll come. It will probably take a few days for your body to realize it needs to make more during the session you added, and the spurt might be over by then. If you can keep that session, I'd use it to build up a stash for things like this.
And if you can't, there's no shame in supplementing if you need to during those times. Some BM is better than none!
