Baby Tylenol Dosage ?

Help! My LO is 11.6 pounds and the dosage says 1.25 for up to 12 and 2.5 for 12 and over. What do I do? I already gave her 1.25 oz and 3 hours later she woke up screaming bloody murder, so I think it is too low. I feel like we are between the 2 and she is practically 12 pounds.

I forgot to ask the pedi, anyone have any experience with this?

Yes it says 1.25 ml for 8-12 pounds
    2.5ml for 12+

I have the syringe and everything that measures it out, but she is almost 12 pounds, just a few oz away, so wondering if I should go up to 2.5 instead.

  • when mine are that close my pedi would tell me to dose at the higher amt if needed.

  • I would use 11.6 pounds (5.27kg) and calculate the dosage and measure it up that way. As long as you dont go over the max per 24 hours for her (should give you a max on the box). If you dont feel comfortable call the pedi. There is usually always someone there to help over the phone.

  • My pedi also okayed the higher dose or recommended going just a little less than the higher dose

The dose for Tylenol in infants is 10-15mg/kg/dose, so 53-79 mg per dose for your baby based on the weight you provided. If you have the 160mg/5ml strength(new formulation) that dose would be 1.7ml-2.5ml per dose. I'd give the higher dose if you know you won't be giving it around the clock. Otherwise, err on the side of the smaller dose to avoid overdosing.

  • My LO is 11 lbs 12oz and the nurse yesterday said 1.25 ml, and it can be given every 4 hours

This is correct. You must look at re strength of the bottle you have and see how many mg/ml it is. It's not safe to say a particular ml amount as it could vary by bottle. Your baby can have a max of 15mg/kg, so 79 mg every 4 hours. FYI te correct dose for advil is 10mg/kg and you can alternate the two every 3 hours if needed, I find this works best for fevers and pain.
