Misses: anything NOT green

What size do you normally break the food into? DH gets super paranoid if they are more than a tiny piece. We do mainly pur?e but will give DD bites of what we are eating.
I am comfortable with LO gagging to a certain extent, but have any of you ever swept food from your LOs mouth if it is clear they can't handle it (large piece that they are unable to move from their cheek/back of mouth out)?
I am a pedi nurse and it panics me to no end when he seems like he is ACTUALLY "choking" on food (versus the normal gagging that usually happens). I have "swept" pieces out on a few occasions, though last time I tried to wait it out, he actually vomited.
Still no problems and she is still doing great. We have tried banana and avocado since last week, on top of the other stuff we have given her. She loves both! Also got a pack of toddler biscuits with no salt or sugar added and because it was high in iron, she did great with that as well. They aren't the disolveable type but that doesn't matter.
We also got some puffs so she can practice picking small things up and she's been doing really well with those too!
Nothing is a miss yet My MIL still gets anxious though, when Sloane was going to town on some cucumber she looked so scared. I'm sure she'll get used to it eventually.
We just started Sunday! Hits: turkey breast, banana, broccoli, cauliflower, fettuccine with no sauce & apples. Misses: carrots & summer squash. Who has had success giving water in an open cup? I want to start, but didn't know how much to give.
June 2016 April Siggy Challenge: Reasons my kid is crying
Sloane likes to drink water in an open cup, she immitates me when I drink my own cup of water. I only offer an ounce once in awhile and she doesn't drink it all, because she is not quite 6 months yet.
I've been giving DS what I'm having as much as possible this week.
So far he loves fruit and yogurt. The apricot sauce I made for him is awesome (we both like it). Same for the blueberry sauce.
We had a rainy day this week and I heated up homemade chicken soup. DS had a hard time getting the chicken down, I ended up mincing it to a course paste with the broth, he found that much easier.
Yesterday I made cold soup bc it was so hot. DS loved the avocado, basil, radish soup (from the MSL July issue) I think we'll be having more cold soup this week - we'll see how he likes cucumber/yogurt/horseradish and watermelon/jalepeno.

Thanks! Maybe I'll hold off for another week.

We started w/ purees and still do them but have been doing finger foods for a while, too.
Hits: He's now pretty good at picking up puffs and eating them.
Misses: We tried giving him pieces of strawberry and he started screaming, we think he bit his tongue. He likes the strawberries in the mesh feeder.
