Infertility

I became an Aunt again last night (m/c mentioned)

For the third time.  My brother and sister in law welcomed their first child, a boy, named Cole William.  He was about 3 and a half weeks early but came out at 6 pounds 10 ounces and very healthy, so we're very thankful for that.  I read so many posts about people having trouble with those around them having children.  And when we got the call last night that she was going to start pushing my DH asked if I would be okay.  I said yes, but wasn't sure.  But as it turned out, I really was and was grateful for that.  They have been trying for nearly three years and my SIL has had three miscarriages prior to this--so it was never easy for them either.  But more than anything, I was just struck by how much I want this.  I have known that for a while--but to see a baby born into my family, surrounded by so much love and joy--wow, it just crystallized it all.  I also had a moment to feel grateful, despite all of this.  I have a beautiful healthy new nephew who I will know and love from the day he took his first breath.  I am surrounded by a loving a supportive family who know what we're going through and are sensitive to it but without being obnoxious and who ask questions and offer support but are never in our face.  It's easy for me sometimes to get on this forum and gripe about things that are bad.  Because let's be honest--there are MANY about IF.  But sometimes I have tiny moments of beauty and in my efforts to have true gratitude moving forward in my life, I am trying to be more conscious of those as well.  So, just thought I would share.

  • I am going through something similar. My sister got pregnant with no trouble 2 years into my infertility had a baby boy last July and now she is pregnant with her 2nd and she is due in December. I've been trying for 3 years, I can't help but feel a little jealous but it is such an amazing feeling meeting a niece or nephew :) I love my nephew so much I even watch him everyday while my sister is at work... I just look at it as it will be that much better when I give them a cousin!

I understand that feeling so well. My SIL is pregnant through IVF and after several years of failed IUIs and I feel like I'm the only one in the family that really understands just how true of a miracle this baby is and I love her to pieces and she isn't here yet.

Mom glad you feel good about it and are able to celebrate with them!

  • Congratulations on your nephew!  I can relate to your post.  Sometimes I am happy that I got to be an Aunt before a Mom, because I was able to develop special bonds with my nieces and nephews that Im not sure would have developed if I had my own little ones to be the center of my world.

Good luck with your first IVF, hopefully your new nephew will have a little cousin on the way soon!
