Re: Maxi dresses

  • On my days off work, I've been living in maxi dresses...they are comfortable and I'm still wearing most of my pre pregnancy ones so no, I wouldn't say you need maternity ones. Obviously ones that nip in at the waist won't really work on us now.

I just like them because they are so comfortable.. Pants/shorts/leggings all have a waist band that has no business being around my waist, but the dresses are just loose and wonderful!  And I think it all depends on your size / body shape.. My maxi's are all "normal" (non-maternity) dresses because they tend to be empire waist dresses anyhow, so any bump I have falls underneath and doesn't get in the way.. My sister always had to wear maternity maxi's though because she carried much higher, so her bump got in the way of the dress hanging correctly.
  • I love them because I am at the point where I hate anything that constricts my stomach. All of my maternity shorts feel too tight in the panel area. I live in the maxi dresses I got from Target. I have a few pre-pregnancy that fit well and I ordered another two that are not maternity. Thankfully I can wear them in the same size I did before I was pregnant so I can still continue to wear them after the baby comes.

Just make sure you try them on, because I got a super cute one from Target and there's so much fabric below the belly that I look like a circus tent in it. Not hot.

  • I wish I could wear them. :[

Sadly, Im so freaking short, I look like, what Kel said, a circus tent.

I tried a cute little red one on in Old Navy, and H called me the Koolaid man. Lol.

They are so much more comfortable than wearing a full panel, especially in the heat.  I found some at Marshalls, non-maternity, which work great because they have plenty of room.  Just make sure to try them on.  Plus they'll work for right after I have the baby, too.

  • I am wearing a non-maternity one today! And it is soo comfortable! I have yet to buy an actual maternity maxi dress but have seen a few cute ones that I may buy if they go on sale or something. You will find better deals on the non-maternity ones..just make sure you try it on and sometimes I will kind of stretch it in the belly to make sure that it won't be too tight on my butt or anything once I get bigger!

  • I live in South Florida, and it is already getting SO hot!  I love knee-length maternity dresses, but I find that the maxi dresses make me a little hot!  Some don't breathe too well and so I find that my legs get sweaty and stick together (yum).  I'm sure they would be more comfortable in a milder climate, but I would go with knee length! :)

I'm in Houston and use a little of that Ortho chafing relief powder-gel on my inner thighs and voila, no sticking!

As for op, I love my maxi dresses.  I'm short (5'2") and chubby (size 18 pre-pregnancy...ok fine, I'm FAT, lol) but I love my maxi dresses.  I have one maternity one, but the rest are empire waist "regular" ones.  Some can make you look tent- like,  but they are so comfy I honestly don't care.  I read on here that one girl uses a couple of safety pins on either side, underneath the dress to pull in, accentuating her bump.  Also, I love them because they hide my pasty white legs that have spider veins and a less than perfect shave job!

  • I <3 my maxi dresses. I cant stand anything with waist bands, even my panties depending on where baby is sitting. Here in Ga it's already in the high 80's-90's. When we do get a cool breeze it feels great to have all the lady bits cooled as well. Also it's just an easy outfit to pull together when you arent feeling anything. I wear non maternity maxis because all my dresses are empire waisted. I need it for my body type.

  • They are so comfortable and easy and they look really cute! I love mine. And none of mine are maternity.

I actually got the maxi dress I am wearing for my shower, a wedding and a wedding shower at Fashion Bug. It is not maternity and I didn't even have to go up a size, looks great and really can't tell it isn't maternity. Though my bump doesn't really stick out too far.
