Last night at like 7 my fiance, DD and I were driving to my mom's house for dinner. We're on highway 75 which is a CRAZY busy highway, especially between 5 and 7, and we notice this guy in front of us swerve into the next lane. I kept watching him and I told Nick I thought he was drunk, but he said he just thought the guy fell asleep. The guy continued to swerve, so I kept my distance behind him (which ended up being the smartest thing I've ever done). After about 5 or so minutes and swerving between three lanes, he jerks over to the left and slams into a concrete barrier and his car spins right in front of us. I slammed on my breaks and was able to stop less than a foot from his car, and the idiot stumbles out of the car laughing his face off.
I am so glad Nick was in the car with me, because I almost got out and lit into the guy. I mean my two year old daughter was in the car, and this guy was out on the highway driving drunk. AT 7 IN THE EVENING. If i would have followed any closer, I would have slammed into him. I wouldn't have been quite as angry if Skylar weren't in the car and I wasn't pregnant. I felt ok, but I got nauseous so the woman in the car that saw us and stopped called 911 and the paramedics came and whisked me off to the hospital to do an ultrasound to make sure my seatbelt didn't do any damage.
Baby Landon is fine and snug in my massive abdomen (and still a boy, thank God). But still. Why do people actually get in the car if they are THAT impaired that they can't even stay on the highway when there are 4 lanes of traffic? Grrrrr.
Re: Stupid people vent.
Wow, how scary! Glad you guys are all ok.
Not that it sounds like it would have helped in this situation because it happened so quick - but I always Call 911 when I see someone driving erratically. Chances are they ARE impaired (drugs or alcohol) and you could be saving lives by getting a police officer to pull the guy over before he causes an accident.
Drunk drivers make me want to kill. My brother's best friend was killed, on my brother's birthday, by drunk teenagers behind the wheel.
I am glad to see your family was safe and that guy didn't kill or maim anyone.
He did get arrested. The cops were already there before I got taken to the hospital, and my fiance had to do a report. I wanted to call the cops while I was behind him, but Nick was convinced the guy was just tired and had fallen asleep at the wheel. I kept telling him to call because I didn't want to be paying more attention to my phone than what the guy was doing. He definitely was making me very nervous.
